How to you...like tell people you're being triggered by your fandom?

What's happening right now in my fandom overlaps a lot with my own personal trauma (trauma, might I tell you I joined fandom to escape). It's not at all something I could've predicted happening when I started liking the thing that I like, but now...it's just too much at times.

I'm so withdrawn from the rest of my fandom, that I don't feel a major part of it, but even following the news can sometimes hurt.

I want to be proactive and work through these feelings, but I feel far too embarrassed to talk to another person about them.

That really sucks, and for me it ended up with me leaving the fandom entirely. It sounds like in your case it might be something temporary, at least? Can you pull back a bit more until the triggering thing is over, or is it something that is going to be a major part of canon from now on?

I've tried coming right out and saying it, but that douchebag just posts that "low quality bait" pic, and then Case ignores the following transphobia.

So I guess there is nothing that can be done.

Do you have to share details? "For personal/life reasons I need to take a break" is enough info for me when my fandom friends go on hiatus. Maybe you could say "this fandom is negatively affecting my mental health" or something.

If you want to actually talk about it for support, reaching out to a fandom friend and explaining what you've said in this secret is just fine IMO, you don't sound odd, stuff like that happens. Some fandoms I've taken long breaks from myself because some personal reason made it not a good space for me for a while.

Oof been there. I either announced to people that I'm taking a break from fandom or I talked to a friend about being triggered and taking a bit of a break (and ask them to update me if I want updates).

I only shared with friends who I felt would be supportive. It was a bit of a coin toss. Some were kind and supportive, others were dismissive.

There were some instances where I never returned to the fandom, but not always.

Taking care of your mental health is important. A pain in the ass, but important no less. Do what you need, Secret OP. Hope that your situation improves <3
