I mean I manage to avoid news about her pretty easily and I look at a few mainstream news websites every day. Maybe it's just not as constant where I live because I'm not in the US, but without F!S I wouldn't really hear about her much good or bad.

Yeah, right? Kinda sounds like a skill issue when it comes to curating your own fandom spaces.

DA this isn’t about fandom spaces tho. Those are easily curated but the same can’t be said about most news apps and websites. You can block certain sections usually or not look at them but you can’t use a blacklist or anything similar.

Maybe that's mainly because I'm not from the US but I think that maybe the news outlets you consume suck if you constantly get news about Taylor Swift.

In American media, articles can and do appear about her regularly in many different news sections. They also get posted in irrelevant places like football websites (which is undeniably misogynistic reporting).

Echoing other anon here, unless she's touring in my country I never get any news about her. Like I found out about her engagement via fandom, the news websites I use will have her in the entertainment section not on the front page.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-25 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It isn’t like that in America at all. Her engagement was the top non Trump headline in the AP news app for at least half the day. They have a four story section at the top that is whatever bullshit Trump is up to and then all the other news is sorted below that. Her engagement was the second largest font on the page (the top Trump headline is always the largest).

DA

I live in the U.S. and I heard about her engagment on the freaking Weather Channel, of all places - they were talking about the weather conditions for upcoming national football games and somehow got on the topic of Taylor Swift and the news she'd gotten engaged.

I'm completely neutral on her and her music, myself, so I'm not bothered one way or another, but others here are right that when it comes to how she's covered here in the States, it's not as simple as just curating one's fandom spaces, 'cause she gets attention and mentions in media outlets you wouldn't expect to cover celebrities like her.

News about her is unavoidable in the US, unfortunately. I think that’s a big factor in why seemingly everyone has an opinion about her. You can’t help but know about her even if you wished you didn’t.

Living in another country as well. Agreed

But after changing my phone and pc language to US English and therefore being exposed to US American news outlets I get what they mean

(Anonymous) 2025-10-26 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
ha-ha, this. I have my phone set on English because I hate auto-translated apps, and I am being exposed to her through absolutely random news outlets. Also every discussion here makes algorithm go wild

This is literally on my local news site. Not even isolated to a section about entertainment or something. It's just interspersed with everything else, all the time.
