(Anonymous) 2025-10-31 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)Li Daikun plays a character who's even more unhinged than Scorpion King, someone so psycho that his own family locked him in a death coffin for years because he learned some forbidden martial arts skill called Hell Palm.
I dunno, though. If you thought GJ's character in WOH was bland, then this might be too dull for you. I didn't think Wen Kexing was anything like bland. The range from playful flirt to bloodthirsty psycho bent on revenge seemed quite varied and interesting to me.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-01 12:13 am (UTC)(link)I think GJ did play the role well enough, I just have this thing that I never really warm up to Priest's (main) characters and that tends to reflect of the actors for me. Which is why I liked the Scorpion King character so much because he was nothing like the original novel version.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-01 01:53 am (UTC)(link)Ah, gotcha. I don't read the webnovels, so I have no idea how far the adaptations have strayed from the canon. Mostly I approach cdramas with the hope that they'll be fun brain candy.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-01 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)I have by now skip-watched up to Li Daikun's first appearance and I adore this crazy little nugget, even though it's all a bit cringy. Including the costume (I cannot help but see the red Queen Amidala dress). Very recognisable though.
I absolutely see what you meant in the secret though. GJ is a bit wooden and while I think that might be intentional, I can see this being a letdown if you looked forward to this.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-01 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)I think DJ improves a little bit and seems to relax after a while, but it still feels like a very muted performance to me. I don't know, maybe it doesn't help that Su Muyu as a character isn't very exciting. The most potentially interesting thing about him is his origin and No-Sword city and potential revenge arc, but so far not a whole lot is being done about that. I'll stick with it for now, though.
