I'm so un-hyped about Tron:Ares. From the actor over to the fact that it's apparently set irl/not set in the Grid for any significant amount of time and how Tron as a character won't even appear as the small cameo he had (as himself) in Legacy, nothing about it seems interesting to me. Even the soundtrack - while so far it looks like it's the only decent thing about it - is droning on too much for my tastes. I get it, it's their style and it does fit the setting but listening to it gave me a headache.

I felt no urge to see it but the bits of the soundtrack I heard I liked-- especially the analog synth tracks. Nice tribute to Wendy Carlos.

YANA. They lost a lot of money on this but 2025 has been so bad that it isn’t even in the top five for flops.

I knew it was bad when anime movies were number 1 for the week with only 15mil.

The Tron reddit has been glazing the hell out of this movie and its soundtrack. I'm a longtime fan of the original and someone who was a little disappointed with Legacy in some respects...but mostly because we'd had years to build up a wishlist of modern computer things that a newer Tron movie could visualize (and it got left to Ralf Breaks the Internet *sigh*) and it just didn't go there. The use of Tron-lines/*circuitry* in the designs was also too minimal for me, but for the most part the movie was pretty good, especially the music. I went in a little skeptical and got blown away.
But with Tron: Ares it was just a movie that happened *at* me. It was just...ok. Not horribly bad, but definitely not great. I was left just feeling sort of 'meh'. The music didn't stick with me either; I listened to it on Spotify a few days later and there were exactly two tracks that had a hint of a memorable tune that appeared *once* and then it was all musical mush. The dismissal of Sam and the ISOs plotline, just a new 'Johnny come lately' character who I don't give the slightest shit about, the lack of even the *mention* of Tron...

I think what sums up the entirety of Ares for me is disappointing mush. I'd rather not see any more Tron in any form than get more of that grey-goo with a few desperate attempts at nostalgia thrown in.

(1) Is that Jared Leto and (2) why is he not aging.

I've never seen any of the Tron films, and the most positive thing I've heard about this one is its soundtrack. I just can't buy Jared Leto in anything. He's so incredibly bland and wooden in everything I've seen him in. Which I've heard might be kind of fitting for this story, but there's no excusing the rest of it.

Agreed.
