So far its been good eps and great bangers. but also MY GOD is there so much discourse happening all of the sudden. And some controversial things that .. well I can see why/where they might be going with it in the show and I also see the criticisms. Like My GOD ep 3 was hard to watch. Charlie.. why? Some people are saying she's backsliding in characterization but.. personally... i feel like ... in some ways its an advancement of her flaws. She crossed Angel's boundaries in s1 ep4 but.. also at the time she didn't know yet what his boss was really like til then Seeing him in person and understanding.

Meanwhile ... s2 ep3 was... a lot more egregious because she seems like she should know better but in a way I can also see why she's so ...desperate. I think she's overwhelmed with what Emily told her and trying to deal with such little knowledge of it. I feel like maybe she's just desperate because she knows the hotel can work and she wants to tell everyone that but .. the sudden propaganda is making it difficult and she doesn't seem to know how to deal with that.

Aughhh so yeah most of ep 3 is just augh. But Piss was a real banger. I love it.
I hope things turn out okay . And on a selfish level i kinda hope Alastor doesn't end up leaving the hotel and also that we get sometime in between s2 and 3 where its like.. just chilling with out Big Plot Stuff ,.. for fanfiction reasons..

I don't know much about this show. But I hate it when something starts off great in the beginning and then just drops off a cliff.

I mean... episode 3 is the only one that's really.. ehhhh not great. I actually LOVED a lot of ep 4.(tho i am biased due to being an Al lover hahaha)

I'm just really hoping the rest works well and makes us understand why that had to happen ....like that.

WAIT not reading this comment because I haven't watched yet but thanks for mentioning this, I hadn't realized s2 was going! I've been really busy lately and not checking on fandom stuff as much. Looking forward to watching :D

Tbh most of my issues with the season so far are sins (heh) from S1. S1 spent so much time on the main angel plot and introducing unnecessary amounts of characters that we didn't get near enough focus on the core cast -- the finale especially played like a big Found Family moment that didn't land for me because we didn't get enough actual interaction for that. So now we're in season two and getting character stuff but it doesn't quite work because it's building off what we *should* have gotten in season one and didn't (like...how did Charlie not know Angel's sin? She literally didn't ask him ever? This is something that S1 could have established, like her asking and being told no, but they barely interacted outside of Angel's focus episode). It also feels a little shoehorned to me that we're suddenly seeing everyone when they were alive -- complete with awkward exposition about it -- because season one couldn't even sprinkle hints in there due to, again, not balancing its time well. I like the show and I think it gets a lot of undue hate (and some justified, I totally do not believe Al was ever meant to be black until it was pointed out how bad that was with the voodoo) but I also don't think Vivziepop is very good at balancing the pacing with the shortened episode count she was given.

Alastor has been mixed race Creole since she first made him tho? That was always part of him.

There’s literally art of him when he was just an evil deer OC that she repurposed for Hazbin. The original design was never intended to even be a human, and she made zero changes when she decided he was going to be mixed race.

Charlie is having a huge breakdown. She's being slandered in the news 24/7, people only want to join her hotel to kill angels and not to redeem themselves, and she was right.

Yeah and i can only imagine what makes it worse is how much the general public of pride ring seem to already have disdain for Charlie and Lucifer but hold Lilith in high regard,

Which considering the hurt of her mother being missing. I mean honestly I've picked up on this and.. really it's kind of infuriating when we know from the end of the season one finale and the beginning of s2 that Lilith is up in paradise ignoring everything while Charlie, (and by the end of s1, Lucifer) ACTUALLY seem to give a damn about sinners. I mean maybe in an imperfect way but.. like... idk they're THERE. Lucifer may have taken awhile.

so for me its sooo infuriating to see how the news is toward her,

S2Ep3 was an incredibly hard watch for me but I hope it means that Charlie got the wake up call she needed to actually grow.

The thing with Charlie is that she has been trampling over Angel since ep2 of season 1 (and Vaggie as well, but with less disastrous effect), but was never called out for it by the narrative to the point I wasn't sure it was done on purpose or if the writers genuinely didn't realise.

In the most generous interpretation, where Charlie didn't realise that Angel didn't have a choice in his career and that drug addiction is a serious illness, she still knew that he was a porn star, was into sex and did drugs, because Angel openly talked about these things. But when she wrote that play of a good guy and a bad guy, she cast Angel in the role of the slimy bad guy selling drugs and trying to entice good guy!Pentious to have sex. Good guy!Pentious proved his inherent goodness by rejecting both drugs and sex, which Charlie then celebrated. She completely rejected Angel as a person without realising and the narrative didn't follow that up in any way.

It's why I was personally pretty frustrated with the last two episodes of S1 because Charlie didn't grow out of the flaws that were set up, but instead outgrew a problem that was set up in the penultimate episode (taking charge and leading people into battle).

As hard as ep3 was to watch, I'm glad that this episode openly acknowledges that a very big flaw of Charlie, because that also means it's something she'll likely overcome soon.

I am wondering if it's being set up that Charlie is only doing the hotel not because it's really her dream to have sinners redeemed and go to heaven, but because it was her MOTHER'S dream and this is her way of trying to get Lilith's attention and make her come back home. Looking back, while the original pilot has Charlie lamenting in her song about the Extermination, s1ep1 has her read the story where it says that Lilith cared about the sinners and then, when Vaggie interrupts her, it's immediately brought up that Charlie hasn't heard from her mom in years. It would explain a lot about s1, Charlie's lack of real thought into what redemption means, and why we are focusing so much on her unanswered calls to her mom this season.
