To each their own. I've always thought it was a good choice. If the golden trio were all going to survive, then killing one of the twins was probably the next most impactful option. It's supposed to be painful, and it is; I don't know why I would resent that.

Yes, it's a logical choice from a writing perspective, one can disagree about whether or not it's the most effective, too obvious a ploy, etc., but it's certainly not sick or twisted.
