If 90% of fandoms were slashing male NPCs with no canon personalities, I'd agree with you, but it's the other way around in my experience. Arthur/Eames from Inception was another big one but it stood out because it was an exception, not because it was the rule.

It's not that the don't get it, it's that they don't want to accept it. They only want to acknowledge what they consider to be annoying, shallow reasons for preferring slash, so they feel validated for being judgmental and self-righteous.
