Nothing makes me more sure that any indie project will fail than when they come to broad genre forums and fan discords wanting to "communally source ideas" because they don't have any strong plans or visions of their own.

This goes for novels, games, webcomics, fanworks, fan events, etc etc.

If you have to ask "what should I do at all?" and not "what do you think of this idea I already have?" it's inevitably going to be bad.

From my experience with imagination fatigue, one of two things has happened:

1) There is Unignorable Stress somewhere in your life and you can't escape into fantasy because your brain is busy working on the problem of the Stress. Although daydreaming / fantasising / imagining is considered stress relieving, it only really works when the stress you're experiencing is something that's reasonably familiar to you. Unignorable Stress can also mean a lack of socialisation, touch, or general human contact so if you've been isolating yourself, you really do need to start trying to get back out there.

1) Your brain has exhausted the dopamine it can squeeze out of your fantasies and you need fresh material. There's a reason authors are prolific readers; inspiration doesn't come from others and the novelty and ingenuity of others powers your own. Ideally, you'd also include new experiences as well as new media; going to a new cafe, trying a different route to a familiar place, trying out something like a massage or rollercoaster that really connects you to your body. By existing and enjoying what you can of reality, you'll give your imagination the fuel it needs to work again.

Sweet potatoes and chestnuts, oven-baked

That’s an interesting take, but I don’t really agree with it. Is Elena abusive? I would say yes, even though she and her family might not agree, but everyone’s appalled when she smashes Miguel’s guitar. Then Miguel runs away because of how hurtful his grandma’s actions were. Is the movie pro-abuse? Nah, I wouldn’t say so.

For real. I had no clue whet allegations these were, and googling just pulled up substance abuse issues and some stuff on a similarly named guy. I couldn't find any substantive allegations on this guy being a child abuser.

I’m behind on the show, so I think I haven’t seen this bit yet, but I can give general context.

The layout of the Connections puzzle is the same as Round 3 (aka “The Wall”) of a long-running and pretty well-known UK quiz show called Only Connect.

When the Times first put out the puzzle, there was some murmuring about it being just the same, not necessarily calling a rip-off, but at least possibly owing some inspiration. I’m surprised they actually said something (presumably on the show itself?).

Connections is a ripoff of the Only Connect connecting wall (round 3). The NYT has never acknowledged the ripoff and has sidestepped all questions about this – although 5 weeks or so after this episode of OC aired, the Connections included words like "sorry," "only," and "connect" at the top. (I may not have the exact phrases right, but it was clearly a response to what Victoria said.)

Yeah, exactly. This is a wild bit of plot to hear about, knowing nothing about the webcomic (?)

Lot of soups. Favourites are probably butternut squash, roasted tomato, and carrot/ginger.

For feeding multiple people at a weekend dinner, a roasted chicken.

And in the past, lots of hearty pasta dishes: bolognese, leek and mushroom, etc. Now that I’m trying to avoid carbohydrate-heavy things, I’m looking around for some alternatives.

Anyone else love chili with some cornbread smashed into? Every soup I eat, I usually put something in. Like chili and cornbread or chicken soup and crackers.

I'm kind of surprised to hear about Rock Cocks, I haven't heard about them in a while. On one hand, yeah I feel like this is a fair take but on the other it wasn't exactly inspired story-telling previous to this.

Chicken pot pie

Did the OP of that take have a furry icon by any chance? I understand their point of view as a victim of "culturally acceptable" child abuse, but I think OP let their trauma experiences "take over" the actual message of the movie. Not to mention they downplayed racist comments made about it by accusing latinx people who disagreed as "pro-abuse"...

lol same.

Thank you for this comment. I feel like these days, a lot of people are quick to react on a very shallow surface level. If they see an abusive character, especially one who isn't very clearly and obviously shown to be a Bad Person, they think the movie (or TV show or book or whatever) is condoning that behavior. It's very frustrating. Depicting something isn't always supporting it...

Fair warning, it’s kind of infamously tricky. I always watch with a finger on the pause button for some extra thinking/conferring time. And I’m still proud of myself if I get several questions right even with that added help.
