Is this song absolutely meant to be autobiographical though?

Yeah idk why swifties always seem to take all her songs as autobiographical.

Probably bc she's spent so much time setting up Easter eggs and building her image as an artist as someone whose songs are her diary. Now she's having trouble extricating herself from that narrative bc she spent so long promoting it herself

That was my first question. Haven't heard this song, but I can think of other Taylor Swift songs that aren't. (...And plenty of songs by Any Other Singer that aren't literally about them.)

Well, it's a track five, and Taylor's track fives are usually the most emotionally vulnerable and personal on her albums, historically speaking.

Whether or not she changed that up for this album? I doubt she'd tell us.

tbh I think the Secret OP is taking the concept of Being An Eldest Daughter too literally. It's about expectations, the weight of them, and how she found a home where things are still gorgeous and lovely, despite the weight of those expectations.

It's more a 'feeling' than a 'story', if that makes sense. It doesn't surprise me that it's a very love it or hate it song.

Surely can't be if she has only one sibling. There have to be three for there to be an "eldest".
