I half suspect "yumeshipping" is the older term. Feels like something revived from that "kawaii bishies ^_^" period in the 00s when "fandom" and "anime fandom" were almost synonymous and it seemed like everyone online was at least a little bit of a weeb.

... or was that just my circles?

At the very least it's definitely a term the weebs of yesteryear would have used for selfshipping.

Nope. I am a weeb of yesteryear and we never used yume, we knew it meant "dream" and nothing else. Self-shipping was still self-insert, no need for a precious Japanese term.

If anything I'm annoyed and shocked that fandom has regressed to adopting Japanese-ish terms, I thought we'd grown out of that.

Nobody ever stopped using terms from Japanese fandom, it's just that "yumejoshi" is a relatively new term in Japanese fandom itself. Weebs didn't just take the word "yume" and make up a new fandom use for it, they saw Japanese fandom using it and borrowed it. Even people outside of anime fandom have been talking about "fujos" for years, it's no big deal.

Lol so am i and i remember the nerds that would bullshit half-assing Japanese words based entirely on Romanji. Maybe you were on the more serious side of the fandom (clearly), but i remember the weebs that I'm talking about.

Pretty sure there are more of us in the ^_^ xD lemon y2k circles here. But yumeshipping is definitely a newer term. Ever since the otome game fan community really took off (thanks for that breadmasterlee Yurika, Enstars etc) and they're very. japanophile. so yumejoshi became yumeshipping. What's going on in anime fandom Netflix era is basically a repeat of 200x so some young kids are really huge weeaboos now and it's fun to see
