Honestly, I think you're onto something.
At the very least it's definitely a term the weebs of yesteryear would have used for selfshipping.

Nope. I am a weeb of yesteryear and we never used yume, we knew it meant "dream" and nothing else. Self-shipping was still self-insert, no need for a precious Japanese term.

If anything I'm annoyed and shocked that fandom has regressed to adopting Japanese-ish terms, I thought we'd grown out of that.

Nobody ever stopped using terms from Japanese fandom, it's just that "yumejoshi" is a relatively new term in Japanese fandom itself. Weebs didn't just take the word "yume" and make up a new fandom use for it, they saw Japanese fandom using it and borrowed it. Even people outside of anime fandom have been talking about "fujos" for years, it's no big deal.

Lol so am i and i remember the nerds that would bullshit half-assing Japanese words based entirely on Romanji. Maybe you were on the more serious side of the fandom (clearly), but i remember the weebs that I'm talking about.
