Thanksgiving!

(Anonymous) 2025-11-25 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
For those of you who celebrate it, what foods do you look forward to the most at Thanksgiving? Do you have a specialty that you bring to your family/friends place?

lol I just made another thread on Thanksgiving! I should have waited a bit and refreshed before making the thread. OH WELL.

We don't really do traditional Thanksgiving dinner but I do make an apple pie each year! I have yet to really be successful at making the crust*, once a year I get irrationally frustrated at crust making and then vow to buy store bought next year...only to do it all over again thinking "no, *this* is the year I'll get it down."

*"not successful" meaning I am frustrated beyond reason as the crust tears and doesn't do what I want it to, but at the end of the day I do end up with an edible pie. It just isn't as pretty (or easy to make) as I ever want it to be.

Haha, great minds think alike!

And no lie, homemade pie crust is hard. I do it sometimes and it tastes pretty good but it never looks pretty and it's hard to roll it out and get it pie-shaped without tearing or running out (because I didn't roll it thinly enough!) so this year I decided to skip doing it. My family isn't that crazy about pie or sweets in general, though.

Macaroni and cheese, turkey, and stuffing. Everyone else loves my sister's sweet potato casserole but I hate it. BLECH.

Normally my favorite foods are turkey, my mother's corn caserole, and mashed potatoes. This year mostly looking forward to the post-Thanksgiving soup.

What's in the corn casserole? We have never been a casserole family and I think of them as such American foods and love hearing everyone's family casserole recipes.

I'm not entirely sure. I know it has regular corn, cream corn, and popcorn in it. But I'm not sure all the other ingredients. I just know my mom makes it and it is delicious.

We do a different menu every year and I usually get assigned a few dishes, but rarely enjoy the food.

I’m already thinking of what I’m going to make myself for dinner this weekend as a private reward after getting through this.

Green bean casserole. If my sister-in-law shows up, then she makes corn pudding that I also look forward to eating.

I love (but will not have this year) my mom's carrot cake.

As for my specialty... well, got it out of an odd recipe book I found, but kung pao turkey with pumpkin seeds has been well-loved whenever I make it for people. (Puzzles the meat counter, though, when you all you need is 2lbs of turkey for 8 servings...)

Wow, that sounds interesting! I'd love to try that dish.

Sadly, I've gotta look forward to leftovers being brought home to me this year... won't be able to make it to the big family gathering. My family is very close, my aunt is an incredible cook, and I am a turkey FIEND, so it is actually sad for me to not go. My mom's idea of how much turkey is a serving is woefully inadequate when it's down to her to bring me home a plate.

Green bean casserole and pumpkin pie!

We always do the basic traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

The turkey and the homemade cranberry sauce are my favorites.
