Favorite/Least Favorite holiday songs
Re: Favorite/Least Favorite holiday songs
Hated: All I want For Christmas is You (doesn't help that i hate Carrey's voice), The Christmas Song. White Christmas just bores me.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-29 01:14 am (UTC)(link)Overall I don't mind Christmas music, but my problem is that there aren't THAT many Christmas songs, so it gets really repetitive. It'll be the same songs repeated over and over, sung by different people. My coworkers want to listen to nothing but Christmas music starting right after Thanksgiving and I hate it so much. Why can't we play a mix of Christmas music and normal music, but oh no, it must be ALL Christmas.

I grew up on folk music Christmas songs, so I have a lot of fondness for those still. Even very religious ones like "Go Tell it on the Mountain".
The weirdest one that I like is "Burgundian Carol", which is about how virtuous the animals in the manger were (with an implication that modern day animals aren't as virtuous).

"On Christmas Day you can't get sore.
Your fellow man you must adore.
There's time to rob him all the more
The other three hundred and sixty-four."
Re: Favorite/Least Favorite holiday songs
Carol of the Bells is my all-time most favorite Xmas song ever.
I hate 'funny' ones (like Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer), and stuff like Rudolf or Frosty the Snowman.
Re: Favorite/Least Favorite holiday songs
I love Carol of the Bells. Any version.
Re: Favorite/Least Favorite holiday songs
Songs I hate: my brother and I have a running bit about being united in our hatred for Little Drummer Boy (also cannot stand Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer)

(Anonymous) 2025-11-29 02:40 am (UTC)(link)I also don't like the perennial 60s novelties "Jingle Bell Rock" and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" (though the latter got a reference in one of the oddest Christmas poems I have ever read).
Favorites? Some days it's more like "most tolerated", but I rather like "O Come All Ye Faithful" in the original Latin ("Adeste fideles"), and there's some rather warped novelty songs that make me smile (like "Hang Myself From the Tree" by The Vandals, which is so overwroughtly, morbidly depressed that it wraps back around to being funny. Or maybe that's just the tuba solo.)

(Anonymous) 2025-11-29 03:33 am (UTC)(link)Favorite is Happy Xmas (War is Over). Interestingly, I may have grown up with a Beatlemaniac mom, but she's Jewish so the post-breakup Christmas songs never got played in our house and I wasn't exposed to them at any volume until my supermarket job. I think I like Happy Xmas because it's not as saccharine as everything else that saw play during the season.
Honorable mention to Angel Song -eve no kane- by the brilliant green, which I don't know the lyrics to because I've never properly tried to learn Japanese so I don't feel qualified to determine if it's lyrically good, but the music itself definitely is.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-29 09:52 am (UTC)(link)George Michael's Last Christmas is also a fun song to sing to with friends!
Helps that we don't have those songs playing all the time, I hear them maybe a few times per Christmas, but they're popular enough everyone knows the lyrics.
I have a love-hate relationship with my country's Christmas songs. They're nostalgic but oh so droll because they're ridiculously angsty and tragic. Who tf wants to think about a smol cute birb freezing to death? Happy Christmas indeed.
