What holiday songs do you love? What holiday songs do you hate?

Songs I love: a lot of traditional Christmas carols. Sussex Carol, Gloucestershire Wassail, Come thou long expected Jesus, Il Est Ne, Jeanette Isabella. Also love Feliz Navidad, Holly Jolly Christmas, Little Saint Nick, and Jingle Bell Rock. And I like some Hannukah music like Maoz Tzur and Oh Hannukah.

Hated: All I want For Christmas is You (doesn't help that i hate Carrey's voice), The Christmas Song. White Christmas just bores me.

Mary Did You Know? and Do You Hear What I Hear? are absolute favourites for me. Also The Monkees' Ríu Ríu Chíu, and Coventry Carol. There's a lot of really beautiful holiday music out there.

I blocked Mariah Carey's Christmas song from playing on the work radio because I despise it. I also can't stand Little Drummer Boy and am not a fan of Mary Did You Know or whatever that song is called.

Overall I don't mind Christmas music, but my problem is that there aren't THAT many Christmas songs, so it gets really repetitive. It'll be the same songs repeated over and over, sung by different people. My coworkers want to listen to nothing but Christmas music starting right after Thanksgiving and I hate it so much. Why can't we play a mix of Christmas music and normal music, but oh no, it must be ALL Christmas.

I wish more mixes included instrumentals. Usually the classical station's Christmas pieces tend to be instrumentals or very old choral pieces (the latter admittedly being way too secular for your average retail store).

I grew up on folk music Christmas songs, so I have a lot of fondness for those still. Even very religious ones like "Go Tell it on the Mountain".

The weirdest one that I like is "Burgundian Carol", which is about how virtuous the animals in the manger were (with an implication that modern day animals aren't as virtuous).

Oh! I forgot about Tom Lehrer's A Christmas Carol

"On Christmas Day you can't get sore.
Your fellow man you must adore.
There's time to rob him all the more
The other three hundred and sixty-four."

I love a lot of the Xmas hymns (Angels We Have Heard on High, O Come, All Ye Faithfull, etc.) because of the very strong, bittersweet nostalgia they bring of Xmases from when I was a kid. Love classics like Let it Snow.

Carol of the Bells is my all-time most favorite Xmas song ever.

I hate 'funny' ones (like Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer), and stuff like Rudolf or Frosty the Snowman.

BLUE SUEDE SHOES!!! I hate it. And that Santa Buddy song by Michal Buble are my least favorites.

I love Carol of the Bells. Any version.

Songs I love: It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (but only with the original lyrics from Meet Me in St. Louis), a lot of the classic hymns, Fairytale of New York
Songs I hate: my brother and I have a running bit about being united in our hatred for Little Drummer Boy (also cannot stand Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer)

I discovered the Snow Miser and Heat Miser song at random on YouTube this summer lol and I haven't been able to get enough of all the covers of it out there. It's practically a mini fandom!

Hated: I think I mentioned "Happy Birthday Jesus" in a general hated-song thread.
I also don't like the perennial 60s novelties "Jingle Bell Rock" and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" (though the latter got a reference in one of the oddest Christmas poems I have ever read).

Favorites? Some days it's more like "most tolerated", but I rather like "O Come All Ye Faithful" in the original Latin ("Adeste fideles"), and there's some rather warped novelty songs that make me smile (like "Hang Myself From the Tree" by The Vandals, which is so overwroughtly, morbidly depressed that it wraps back around to being funny. Or maybe that's just the tuba solo.)

Wonderful Christmastime used to be my least favorite, then I heard a particularly unfortunate cover of it this week. The cover is now my least favorite.

Favorite is Happy Xmas (War is Over). Interestingly, I may have grown up with a Beatlemaniac mom, but she's Jewish so the post-breakup Christmas songs never got played in our house and I wasn't exposed to them at any volume until my supermarket job. I think I like Happy Xmas because it's not as saccharine as everything else that saw play during the season.
Honorable mention to Angel Song -eve no kane- by the brilliant green, which I don't know the lyrics to because I've never properly tried to learn Japanese so I don't feel qualified to determine if it's lyrically good, but the music itself definitely is.

Because I have a weakness for punk pop, I usually listen to Fall Out Boy's Yule Shoot Your Eye Out and Blink 182's I Won't be Home For Christmas.

I'm basic and love the Mariah Carey song. Also the Christmas song by Nat King Cole.
George Michael's Last Christmas is also a fun song to sing to with friends!

Helps that we don't have those songs playing all the time, I hear them maybe a few times per Christmas, but they're popular enough everyone knows the lyrics.

I have a love-hate relationship with my country's Christmas songs. They're nostalgic but oh so droll because they're ridiculously angsty and tragic. Who tf wants to think about a smol cute birb freezing to death? Happy Christmas indeed.
