I know I found reader fic very uncomfortable when I hated my body a lot. The distance between the idealized Y/N and me wasn’t escapist, it was jarring.

I’m much more comfortable in myself now and glad to hear you are too!

That totally makes sense, I've experienced something similar with escapist vs jarring when it comes to reading ship fic, though reader insert fic isn't really for me personally. Getting envious of the story or down on myself instead of just enjoying the idealized fantasy is definitely something I do when I'm having more body issues.
