I'm not a big fan of MPREG but if it means I no longer have to deal with annoying author inserts so one half of the fic's main gay couple can impregnate her

(…because babies ever after are the only measure of a couple's success I guess? I forget why this was such a huge trend back in the fandom days of yore)

then I'm all for it! do FPREG next, please

I'm not a fan of MPreg because it seems to be a reiteration of the toxic trend where there's a perception that when it comes to gay couples, you have to have someone be "the woman." The idea of a gay couple being made up of two men who just happen to love each other and do whatever they can to take care of each other? That's unpossible apparently. No, the only way for gay couples to work is to have a big strong manly man and a weak weepy femme male character with a spine as sturdy as wet tissue paper.

Now if one half of the pairing is a trans man or if we're talking about alien genetics, I'm onboard, but most of the time, I'm not a fan. It just seems to reinforce all the worst regressive gender stereotypes.

"babies ever after are the only measure of a couple's success I guess?"

Ugh, I really dislike this. Why does the default happy ending tend to be gets married and has babies? It's fine if you want that! But can we have more media where that's NOT the happily-ever-after?

Nah, I'll pass on the babies completely.

I'm child-free, but sometimes I think babies ever after is the right ending for a ship I write for-- not all of them, but some of them, and I've written mpreg as well as adoption, surrogacy, and child(ren) of a previous marriage, depending on the fic, the characters' history (like, if they have canon kids-from-a-previous-relationship, or have canonically adopted a child, sure, but also like... if I'm going to write mpreg it can't just be because it's an easy way to get a baby, there are characters I think would legit want the full pregnancy experience if it was open to them and others that I think would get an abortion and find another way of being a parent, you know? Not to mention the guys who are def post-menopausal). FPpreg, though? I dunno, I mean I HAVE written it, sure, but like... mainstream media has fpreg covered, if I wanna see pregnant men fanfic is the easiest way to do it.
