So I know there have been a lot of secrets on this topic lately (2 I think), so apparently it's a pretty popular opinion, despite what I said in the secret. My bad, gang! Feel free to ignore. Merry Christmas!

I think maybe in FS it’s the default but despite not seeing the movie myself I’ve definitely run into large groups of “They’re canon!” believers. It’s actually why I didn’t go see the movie.

I mean, it's a Disney franchise. They're not going to show an inter-species relationship, and they're not going to show anything more explicit than a kiss or two and a wedding.

If you want to be canon, there's not going to be much evidence for or against a non-platonic relationship unless the 4th movie is about them finding and navigating Darwin approved mates or something and how that would affect their relationship, but I also don't see that happening.
It's a buddy cop duo. I would like to theorise that no one would be shipping them if it wasn't a boy/girl pairing, but it's the internet and someone would ship them if it was a pairing between two gender ambiguous garden tools.

I mean, shipping buddy cops of the same gender is... incredibly popular? So there'd be a LOT of shipping, but no expectation of seeing them become canon, whereas when you have buddy cops of different genders, sometimes there IS that expectation that they'll end up together. Like, no one shipping Starsky and Hutch thought they were going to get together (though many a fic has been written), but (counting federal agents as buddy cops for the purpose of this argument), your Mulder and Scully or your Scarecrow and Mrs. King were a different story.

Why do people always assume secrets submitted are responding to opinions in this community? People did this with the Michael Jackson secret. Dreamwidth is not active in the fandom sphere anymore, I always assume 99% of secrets are discussing or venting about different communities on Reddit, Discord, Twitter, etc.
