I like to talk sometimes, but I also have days where I just want to listen to music/podcasts. It's a hard balance because one of my coworkers is super chatty and she can take my low social battery days personally. I care about her feelings because we're friendly, but I don't care so much that I feel a need to coddle her feelings.
When I tell her I'm not in a chatty mood because my social battery is low, I don't care if she believes me or not. If she thinks I'm mad at her and I don't want to talk to her then sure, whatever. I'm here to clock in and clock out. I'm not here to have a reputation as the nice coworker who was always so nice to talk to. I'm the nice sometimes but quiet other times coworker.
