A lot of times the writing, acting, direction, or all three, just don't sell it. I've come to expect the "romance" whenever a man and a woman stand next to each other, but rarely do I actually see it in the text, as it were. Mostly when it comes to shipping I grab onto characters that I think have the best chemistry on screen, which is rarely the ones the story actually puts together.
