Cat Advice (Kind of Gross)

(Anonymous) 2026-01-02 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Fellow cat owners, can someone offer some advice?

My little calico has been having some hygeniene issues lately. She keeps getting little "dingleberries"/remnants on the fur around her hindquarters. I clean her litter box daily, and she's on wet food and has plenty of water, so I'm not sure what's causing this or how to solve for it. I take a baby wipe to try and clean her up and boy does she howl, poor embarrassed thing. Any ideas?

You can get her trimmed. How old is she? She might be having trouble reaching back there.

My chonky cat can't quite reach so I get her a 'hygienic trim' at the vet. 'Cause yeah, they hysterics and drama when I have to use a wipe or something to get her butt cleaned, omg.

Re: Cat Advice (Kind of Gross)

(Anonymous) 2026-01-02 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
The best advice is a little butt trim, but sometimes there can be something about the shape, size or amount of litter in the tray that makes the cat crouch awkwardly. You could try a different sized tray, or adjusting the amount of litter, or placement of the tray. But sometimes it's just the shape and furriness of the cat!

New Year's Resolutions!!!!

(Anonymous) 2026-01-02 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
What are yours in 2026?

Re: New Year's Resolutions!!!!

(Anonymous) 2026-01-02 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Lots of potential resolutions, nothing too exciting, but I’ll see which ones I manage to make into concrete, measurable goals and actually stick to…

- sending people birthday wishes
- reading more books and watching more movies
- cooking more new recipes
- making a dent in my arts and crafts supplies
- volunteering more

Stop wasting money

Reduce the sugar I eat/drink

To make quality of life improvements, wherever I can find them. More time spent outside. Using the "special" things (candles, wine, chocolate, clothes). Adding the extras that I've always wanted but always thought was not meant for me, a peon (example: I bought actual cinnamon sticks instead of the regular stuff. So decadent!). Getting massages. I may do a weekend "staycation" at a local hotel that has big soaking tubs since I, at 5'10", haven't fit into a bathtub in my entire adult life. The world is trying to make me miserable, and I won't let it.

Stand up for myself more, find more confidence in myself, not let myself get walked over, just generally give myself at least a bit of the support I try to give others.

Read 12 books (at least), lose 30 pounds, actively use my media and resolutions journals, get to 30 minutes a day on my exercise bike, complete my two crochet kits, and finish at least three needlefelting projects (my new hobby in 2026).

... don't kill myself?

(Seriously, I have no goddamn idea when I'm having problems keeping up with mundane tasks.)

None, because resolutions rarely work out

More goals than resolutions

(Anonymous) 2026-01-02 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I quibble on the term because goals is less pressure to me and works for my brain for some reason.

But I have a yearly reading goal, I usually try and add some each year but this year I'm keeping it at 25 books.

Backpack more! I had a lot of health issues this past year that kept me from the trails and I don't want to let that get me out of the habit. The health stuff is mostly straightened out so I want to get back out there this coming year.

Lose weight. I got health insurance starting in January and I am going to make an appointment with a nutritionist and then hoping to make an appointment with a personal trainer and get serious about building muscle and losing this depression weight (my mom died two years ago and I've just put on a lot of lbs since then).

I’m focusing on time management. I need better life/work balance.

Make a different pot of soup every week. (I love soup. Why not have an enjoyable resolution?)

Shop online less. I have enough to wear.

Stop buying top-ups on my phone games.

So all of them save money, lol.

Restless Legs/"Jimmy" Legs

(Anonymous) 2026-01-02 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone else suffer from restless leg syndrome? Mine are driving me nuts. I'll allllmmmost be asleep and then I kick under the sheets like a damn fool. I feel this strong, uncomfortable need to pedal my feet or stretch.

Besides medicine, what else could calm them down so I can rest?

Thank you!

(Anonymous) 2026-01-02 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Have you tried weighted blankets maybe?

Re: Restless Legs/"Jimmy" Legs

(Anonymous) 2026-01-02 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
It's almost always my right leg. I stretch it out when that happens, even getting out of bed to do deeper stretches. I haven't taken data, but anecdotally I feel like it works?

Re: Restless Legs/"Jimmy" Legs

(Anonymous) 2026-01-02 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I've never heard the term Jimmy Legs. TIL!

Honestly the only thing that has helped mine is tensing and releasing my thigh muscles repeatedly basically until I can't anymore. Or getting up and doing squats. I'm not sure if that's just mostly psychological honestly but it does help a bit. All of my "restless leg" feeling is in my thighs though, it sounds like yours might be different?

That and a weighted blanket. Though I feel like my legs have adapted to the weight and I need a heavier one now...

I have bad restless legs. I'm up to 4mg of ropinerole per night and sometimes it doesn't help at all.

Eucalyptus/peppermint oil and heating pad or ice pack can help sometimes.

Omg, it's the worst. Some stretching helps (before bed), or just moving around a bit, and I take magnesium citrate (a gummy supplement) daily to help with this and also horrible fucking leg/foot cramps. So far so good - it's helping a lot!

I only have it mildly now, but I had it badly for many years when I was having thyroid problems. Get your thyroid checked, if you haven't, and your magnesium, calcium and iron levels. Apart from that, drinking electrolyte solution in the evenings helped me.

Needlefelting!

Anyone here done it? It is a new hobby I'm trying to get into next year. Either 3D or 2D works.
