I’ve never read the book but I saw the play. I went in only knowing it was a twist on TWOZ that made the wicked witch of the west the good guy. I can’t remember anything about it that might come off as upsetting or triggering. It’s a very bland and shallow musical targeted at teens who like catchy songs. It’s definitely worth a watch if you can go, not least because fans of the musical are truly fanatic and it’s honestly awesome to see.

Yeah, I read the book first and there is some unexpectedly fucked up stuff in the book which genuinely seems to be there for shock value. Almost none of that was in the musical.
