(Anonymous) 2026-01-16 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)I met someone I'd known for a few years via fandom. The meet up left me feeling weirded out. The best I can explain it is they came off guarded and incurious.
Not so much "not the person I know online" feelings, but just someone I got weird vibes from. Vibes I didn't feel when we chatted online.
I'm polite and cordial when I talk to people. With my friends, I'm more relaxed. I'm still polite but I feel more comfortable to talk more, have casual verbiage, bring up personal experiences, ask questions I'm genuinely curious about to the person I'm talking to.
I tried to give off that friend vibe to my fandom friend, because I thought they were nervous. But they were weirdly rigid and defensive.
I tried to be mindful not to prod too much and to not come off self-centered. But our time together felt like a distant adult cousin/aunt spending time babysitting a moody 10yo.
And I guess I was expecting a chill or fun day out with a girlfriend. Regardless, the weird vibes told me to keep my distance so I did.
