1993 was a shit year to be a music fan in the UK

Not from the UK but there were some songs that year I love. But I can't stand Whitney Houston and that was a big year for her. I think she's basically Barry Manilow with melanin and tits and that is NOT intended to be a compliment.

whew look at that blast from the past. look, 93 was a middling year everywhere, I remember what I was playing on the radio versus what was being released but not charting. It was a wild world out there.

That was the year I moved from England to America and honestly the music and television was so, so much better in America. Somehow none of the alternative rock made it across the pond and it’s a shame because 93 was one of the most exciting years for music. It’s also a shame because if the uk had heard the music coming out of America that year, Oasis never would have gotten a record deal.

I remember 1993 being a great year for music, and it was, but not up the top end of the charts in the UK it seems. Killing in the Name! All That She Wants! Creep! Human Behaviour! Detachable Penis! November Rain!

this is an amazing example of what I try to explain to the younguns, re: national, regional, and local charts. In the 90s Billboard and all the other charting agencies by country or region still had pull. A station like this, charting in Australia, would have had so much regional influence on national charts to the point of swaying national charting numbers. I worked for US stations that had regional charting sway due to market shares. How charts worked from the 1970s into early 2000s is one of my passions to share, thanks for pointing out that it was the same regardless of country.
