(Anonymous) 2026-01-17 01:50 am (UTC)(link)1) The original version was low-budget and/or low-quality because it didn't gain any sort of significant popularity until after it was released
2) It was an anime adaptation of a manga that was still being serialized, so they either had to asspull an ending for the anime because the manga itself wasn't done yet or they just ended it partway through and never even animated a large portion of it
3) The original was dated in ways that are cringey rather than charming
4) It's something that would really benefit from current special effects technology
For things like that, I see a reboot or a remake as being an attempt to be closer to the original vision for whatever it was rather than as a cash grab.
