I'm getting a wee bit frustrated that Kylo Ren/Rey fics keep popping up when I'm looking for Kylux. Are people purposefully tagging it deceptively? I feel like I'm usually pretty adept at using A03.

You don't seem that adept at using AO3, you can exlude tags as well, if it really is only due to wrong/additional tagging that you are stumbling upon those fics

Is it purely the other ship, or is it a side paring in the one you're looking for? Still that's strange. Do you have autoblockers? Maybe something got put in the wrong category?

Some people like to tag past relationships that happen briefly and are only barely mentioned in the story. Perhaps to ensnare readers because they don't realize they are just going to annoy people, perhaps they genuinely just think they should tag anything even vaguely mentioned. Either way, really annoying.

I hate when this happen. What's happening for me now is fics tagged Sauron/Melkor but are really tv-show version of Sauron/Galadriel. Really annoying, but I have figured out how to exclude some tags on AO3 and block them on Tumblr, which has helped a lot.

The dynamic is kind of similar, funnily enough.

You can exclude Reylo as a relationship while searching.

This is sadly becoming more and more common. People thing they're "optimizing the algorithm" (AO3 has none) by tagging as much as they can even if it's not relevant to the fic at all. And it's not just pairings, but other kinds of tags as well. And then they defend themselves by claiming it helps them reach a wider audience.

When I was reading a lot of Star Wars sequel fanfics, it was so hard to find fics that didn't have the Kylo Ren/Rey ship tags.

Yes. The tag system on AO3 is routinely abused in this manner, no nobody cares.

"skill issue" or "go cry wattpad" is the only response you ever get if you raise an issue with AO3 tagging.
