I am so annoyed by the general trend to look down on and make fun of people on the GLP1 meds. People seem to think if you take them it's a magic drug that makes fat disappear, not the reality that it takes work and changing your diet and lifestyle and the medication helps you do that. So many jokes about "Americans would rather do anything than just go to the gym" like people aren't already working out or haven't tried anything else.

I know part of it is because of the 'heroin chic' look that's coming back in Hollywood in part because of the abuse of these drugs, but for the general public it isn't like that and the general public is who a lot of the jabs are about.

I know I'm being too sensitive about this and normally I just roll my eyes but it just annoyed me a bit extra tonight.

I don't think it's being too sensitive, I can see how annoying that would be. I don't have personal experience of these drugs, but from what I understand it only removes some of the impediments to making the changes that people want to make in their lifestyle and it still takes commitment and hard work to make those changes. Honestly, I have so much respect for anyone doing that, and not a lot for people who only like to criticise others, because they'll put other people down for any reason they can make up, they don't really care about whether or not people use glp1 drugs or anything else.

You're not being too sensitive, it's because they're suddenly scared that they won't be able to look down on fat people anymore. I'm on them, and have lost a lot of weight, without changing what I eat or how often I go to the gym. My metabolism was fucked by autoimmune shit and cancer, and I don't think that fat-haters want to realise that a good number of fat people are fat because they're sick, not sick because they're fat. (And even if you're not sick, your worth is not determined by your size.)

It's definitely a double edge sword. If you have a big body, you're too fat and not taking your health seriously. If you lose weight and it came with taking medication or going under the knife, you cheated so therefore you shouldn't be given or feel any sort of positive attention or feelings. No matter what you do it will never be "enough" to prove your humanity.

You're not being too sensitive! For decades it's been a refrain of "It's a health issue!" And when a drug is created to help treat this health issue the lie is revealed: some see being fat as a moral failing that can only be atoned for by suffering.

Good luck cutting these weirdos out of your day.

It is exactly this attitude that makes me not share that I was put on these drugs with my in-laws. I adore my spouse, but his family are a bunch of hypocritical assholes.
OTOH, I’ve lost 50# and finally feel like all the exercise I’ve been doing for decades is actually making a difference!

I'm only looking down on those people who absolutely take it but deny, deny, deny and pretend like their weight loss is all their own hard work when it very much isn't. Also looking down on people who basically tell everyone "why don't you just go on these, they worked so geat for me" and scoff at people being wary of possibly very unpredictable severe side effects.
