Coworker making AI video of us

(Anonymous) 2026-01-20 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Today my coworker delightedly showed all of us how she made this AI video clip of a bunch of us doing this stupid dance. I was kind of infuriated? Don't use my photos for this shit??? And she couldn't get why I and a few others were mad. It was like half of the people said what's the big deal, who cares, and the other half of us weren't happy with it. But I'm genuinely stewing over it still, I'm irrationally angry over this tbh.

That's not irrational. I don't think all forms of AI are bad, but deepfakes freak me out even if it's "just" a meme. I don't want photos of myself fed into a dataset for people to use for amusement, I'm not a fictional character.

Honestly? I’d report them to HR.

This-- personally I think you are very rationally upset about your image being used this way and you're not alone in it! The plain fact of the thing is that this is a huge overstep for a coworker to make without gaining your consent-- certainly they would have to do so if they wanted an actual video of you. Their intentions may be entirely pure but if they are making multiple people at work uncomfortable then it's an appropriate place for HR to step in before that discomfort can escalate or be handled badly in the moment the next time.

It's understandable - not only is it AI but none of you gave consent for your image to be used. HR should hear about this.

I would feel the same way, and I don't think it's irrational. I would definitely go to HR, I don't think this should become a normal thing to do.

That's seriously annoying at best, especially because a LOT of people don't get why people dislike AI. To them, it's just a dumb toy, and they don't understand why it's upsetting. Good luck if you end up taking this to HR.

OP

(Anonymous) 2026-01-20 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for all the comments. I am so glad of the reassurance that I'm NOT just overreacting or being a problem. I have problems with AI, and I am really resentful that my photos have now been shared who knows where with who knows who, and also it's just kind of humiliating to have this stupid video of me (and others) doing this stupid dance, that I would never do IRL. Like, what the fuck??? I am hesitant to take it to HR because I don't want to be the ~problem~ person who is fussing, but I'm still mad. It's been hours now and I'm not over it at all.

A lot of people were like, who cares, no one cares about YOUR photos, get over yourself, it's not hurting anything, etc etc. Um well actually I care, it's just really weird and uncomfortable. I get that a lot of people think it's like a cute/fun parlor trick but it does not feel good.

My department wanted to do AI video for a NY party with deep fakes. I managed to talk them out. But I fucking hate that EVERYONE in my team are pro AI. I feel like I am loosing my mind

That sucks so much! I would take it to HR to stop her ever thinking that this kind of shit is okay. Lucky it's just a stupid dance clip but people do make... other kind of videos without consent too.

I am so annoyed by the general trend to look down on and make fun of people on the GLP1 meds. People seem to think if you take them it's a magic drug that makes fat disappear, not the reality that it takes work and changing your diet and lifestyle and the medication helps you do that. So many jokes about "Americans would rather do anything than just go to the gym" like people aren't already working out or haven't tried anything else.

I know part of it is because of the 'heroin chic' look that's coming back in Hollywood in part because of the abuse of these drugs, but for the general public it isn't like that and the general public is who a lot of the jabs are about.

I know I'm being too sensitive about this and normally I just roll my eyes but it just annoyed me a bit extra tonight.

(Anonymous) 2026-01-20 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's being too sensitive, I can see how annoying that would be. I don't have personal experience of these drugs, but from what I understand it only removes some of the impediments to making the changes that people want to make in their lifestyle and it still takes commitment and hard work to make those changes. Honestly, I have so much respect for anyone doing that, and not a lot for people who only like to criticise others, because they'll put other people down for any reason they can make up, they don't really care about whether or not people use glp1 drugs or anything else.

(Anonymous) 2026-01-20 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
You're not being too sensitive, it's because they're suddenly scared that they won't be able to look down on fat people anymore. I'm on them, and have lost a lot of weight, without changing what I eat or how often I go to the gym. My metabolism was fucked by autoimmune shit and cancer, and I don't think that fat-haters want to realise that a good number of fat people are fat because they're sick, not sick because they're fat. (And even if you're not sick, your worth is not determined by your size.)

(Anonymous) 2026-01-20 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
It's definitely a double edge sword. If you have a big body, you're too fat and not taking your health seriously. If you lose weight and it came with taking medication or going under the knife, you cheated so therefore you shouldn't be given or feel any sort of positive attention or feelings. No matter what you do it will never be "enough" to prove your humanity.

So this spa my mother and I go to does gift cards. My mother treated me to one for Christmas. Only the person who took her order attached it to my account, which they aren't supposed to do. Which meant the card was used on my appointment for December 15 without anyone telling me.

My fault partially for not getting a receipt. But still really annoying because I would have made at least 1 less appointment today if I'd known I didn't have the gift card.

For some reason my work can't just fucking fire our shitty photographer who was hired by previous management. So they decided to keep her in the office while she isn't on a job. Sitting right fucking behind me. And space is organised so badly that I will keep just hitting her with my elbows every time I breath.
I guess they don't need me. Because I am not working like that.
