What is the dumbest, pettiest, most pointless argument you have seen someone insist on?

This was so random/weird. I was on some Reddit page, I don't remember which, maybe for plus-sized women? And someone said, "Do any of you ever wear a panty liner when you aren't actually on your period, so that when you get home from work/being out, you can take it off and have fresher underwear for the rest of the evening, without having to actually change them and create more laundry?"

All of the replies but one were pretty normal, "Yeah I do that," "No but that sounds like a good idea," "Hmm, not really my thing."

But one person somehow took major offense to this. This person expressed, in a very hostile way, that this was the most crazy, off-the-wall, and disgusting thing that she had EVER heard of. That she couldn't understand why ANYONE would EVER do that. And that when she gets home from work, she takes a bath and put on CLEAN underwear and takes care of her family.

And people were like, well, it's really not that gross, not sure why you are so offended by it?

And this person then doubles-down and insists that actually, ALL women of her race do the same thing she does. ALL women of her race come home and immediately have a bath and then take care of their families and they do NOT wear their dirty underwear after they get home, because they take a bath and put on clean. This must be something that women of OTHER races do, but NOT women of her race.

And then people are even more baffled, like how is this a racial thing? And other women who are the same race as her are like, uh, I'm that race, too, and I don't take a bath as soon as I get home. Sometimes I wear a panty liner and switch it out, it's not a racial thing.

And she then accuses a few of those people as lying and not actually being the same race as her, and ignores the rest, and continues to insist on this.

It was genuinely one of the weirdest internet arguments I have ever seen.

There was an anon here claiming months ago that fursuitting was a kink and wearing fursuits in public was akin to being nude or doing a BDSM scene around children or unconsenting parties (ex. outside of FOLSOM). I had a hard time wrapping my head around that, not gunna lie. And anon kept doubling down.

Like, I think furries are creepy as hell, but I've been told those suits cost thousands of dollars. It would be hard to clean... *ahem* from them, especially if it covers your entire body. I think people underestimate how many of them are used for fetish purposes.

*SA
OVER-estimate, I mean. Goddamn typos.

I remember them. It came up just after I went to a gastropub for lunch and it just happened to be on the Saturday that the furries were doing a small charity convention at said bar. It was a family affair with lots of kids and old people playing chess while drinking beers and furries were wandering around sometimes only in half their suits. Everyone was having a good time and this anon would have burst a vein.

The food was pretty good.

That's pretty dumb. I get not being a fan of furries, but like, be realistic about it, dude. Someone walking around in a fursuit is not the same as walking around naked in front of children. I can't handle the dumb drama sometimes. Like why the need to dial everything up to 11? Are people that bored?

If I was commissioning someone up to $5-10k for a full body character suit, the last thing I'd do is ruin it by having sex in it. Bondage gear and whatnot is similarly expensive, but leather, vinyl, and latex is easier to clean and more durable for *ahem* than fake fur or whatever the material is.

It's weird. I think furry porn is gross but I always wonder how much porn someone has seen to see a photo of a cartoon suit at an event and think about sex. Reminds me of "abstinent" Christians who think about sex constantly.

You go on exactly three (3) dates, and then you kiss, and if you decide you like it, you propose and get married, and then you have sex and this is the way all relationships happen, regardless of culture or religion. Once you have sex with a gender, that is the orientation you must be forever. Asexuality was not a thing. Bisexuality was not a thing. Pansexuality was not a thing. Having sex on the first, second, or third date was not a thing. No one does that. No one discovers they were suppressing their sexuality, no one has multiple partners.

All of this was cited as "evidence" that Hannibal could not possibly be in love with Will on NBC Hannibal even though the guy arguing saw the scene where Will asked if Hannibal was in love with him and was told yes. It was only there because the writers obviously just wanted to add something shocking, and not a natural course of the developing relationship from the very beginning of the show.

This was the weirdest guy I've ever talked to and oh boy did he have things he needed to work through....

Oh I actually think I have JUST discovered a post that fits here perfectly!

https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisit/comments/1p9sq10/in_womens_restroom/

A young man cleaned a women's restroom and asked what the little metal boxes on the walls of each restroom stall were for. The answer is disposing of used period products. A debate breaks out about how these boxes are intended to be used. Some people insist that these are meant to have a stack of paper bags placed in them, and each woman who has an item to dispose of is supposed to put it into the paper bag and then take it out of the stall and put it in the main trash. Others think the box is supposed to have a liner put in it and the custodian empties it and puts a fresh liner in daily.

The discussion gets a little heated.

oh wow. that was interesting, actually. i've literally never seen a bin with multiple bags in it. they usually have just one bag set in as a liner. or sometimes none at all 🫠 i'd be fine with the single use bags but i've just never seen that setup. not sure what the people insisting that it's supposed to be used as a dispenser think is supposed to be done when you go to use one and it just has one bag in there as a liner. should i find the janitor and tell them they need to put a stack of bags in the bin instead?

I still laugh about the time someone here accused me of lying about baking a sweet potato.

Somebody insisted that any pronunciation that is listed second in the dictionary is fake.
