For people in the US, do you think ICE members will ever be punished for the things they've been doing?

I kind of want them to live in shame for years. I've seen people saying 'the cruelty is the point' for a while, and ICE agents detaining children and legal immigrants, killing people, and mocking people about it really makes that clear.

Honestly, I think the ones at the top might be. I think we'll reach a point where we've gone to far for the general public, we may have hit that. But I also think those in power are very good at making small changes and then placating people. So I'm not sure we're going to get any major overhauls. But I do think we may have reached a point where people at least say that they've gone too far.

Only if their communities and families hold them to account. I barely have any hope that the ones in charge will be prosecuted; none for the rank and file.

Nuremberg trials 2.0. There's no excuse for this horror, but I suspect the majority of the cowards currently employed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I'm spelling it out now because some content creators have pointed out the absurdity of an agency with zero jurisdiction in the places they terrorize, armed to the teeth with military weapons that they use to murder U.S. citizens with) aren't interested in my making excuses and genuinely enjoy what they're doing.

I think they will be punished. But the American people have to make it happen. That means kicking out limpdicked and depraved politician alike and putting in those who fully intend to hold this regime accountable for their actions. Being active in the democracy they wish to live in. No more putting it in the hands of a few, be it politician or the "super voter" fraction of the electorate.

Man, since the subject line isn't in all caps, I was hoping this would be a thread for complaining about ice, the substance, since I've been dealing with it for the past few days and almost couldn't get my car out of the driveway this morning.

But, uh, anyway...

Regarding ICE the organization, I'm not holding my breath on the punishment thing, unfortunately.

All of them? No. I'd like to see that happen, but I'm not sure I can find the faith to believe it will. I think there ought to be Nuremberg-like trials held where the top politicians are publicly shamed, stripped of all their honors, privileges and money and left to rot in jail. I'm amenable to slightly less harsh punishments for the rank and file, such as jail time and fines equal to all the money they received in payment for the job, plus extra for damages to anyone they hurt. A lifetime ban from gun ownership/licensing also sounds good to me, and it goes on their permanent record - no jobs in law enforcement, no military branches will accept them and they lose all privileges earned from any military service.

Based off what I've experienced in the US for past 40 years, no. If we're lucky, we'll get the monsters in charge out and possibly ICE will be defunded to the point of no longer existing or being absorbed into some non-work work.

We'll get a lot of "what a shameful part of America" comments from politicians but fucking nothing will actually be done. Back to putting thumbs up their asses as they find the next super PAC or special interest group to accept money from so they can continue to pretend to be doing something when all they're doing is finding ways to put more money into the pockets of the wealthy class.
And then 5 years later those same politicians will be angrily tweeting sick burns about the racist fascists regaining support and power because they didn't do jack fucking shit to hold anyone to account.
Fucking fun.

Not saying I'm a Doomer. Right now, we gotta fight and protest and do something.
But the moment we get things feeling not so dire, most people (and especially politicians) go back to "normal". And as people bitch about how we can't let fascism take power again, fucking no one will be shaming or holding to account the people who LET all the bad shit happen. Instead they make mean comments and simply...allow the corruption to continue.
I'm so sick of them all. The ones who are blatant evil people who revel in the cruelty of their actions as well as the ones who walk around and say dumb fucking shit like, "What happened is illegal, and we're in the process of calling the head of the operations to answer stern questions we have!" And the Senate/Congressional hearing will just be a bunch blahblahblah where again FUCKING NOTHING happens.

Tl;dr - 35 years from now someone's going to write a novel about a boy who discovers the old man who lives next door used beat and kill minorities
