Re: National Shutdown Day to protest ICE tomorrow (USA)

does it count if you've been economically shutting down every day because you have no money to spend?

I'm all for a genuine national strike but sadly, I don't know that this is going to make any sort of impact at all. not because people like me who are poor and can't lose their job can't participate, but because those with the privilege to be able to participate won't outweigh those of us who can't. you can't make an impact that way, no one will even notice.

I think economic blackouts have real consequences and impact, though it's not always immediately seen.

NAYRT
I think they do, too. And I’m the anon calling this particular protest stupid. If it were a targeted approach with careful planning to include spreading the word far and wide in advance, it would absolutely make an impact. But it’s a split focus, short notice protest that won’t have enough participants and as a result, it will do more harm to the ones protesting than it will to anyone else.

+1 exactly my point - with planning it would be an actual blackout. but the numbers of people all over the internet saying "why am I only learning about this now at 8pm the night before" is why it won't be a blackout. at this rate it won't even wiggle the needle a little, it won't have enough impact to be a blackout.

never mind the people saying that as long as you shift your buying to Thursday or Saturday...ok cool so you know that retailers don't mark single day shifts, right? it's ultimately meaningless. A WEEK without sales, a MONTH of canceled subscriptions that aren't renewed later, that will show up on reports.
