I am so far past caring. I have my “don’t hurt people” rule, and people want me to add a “don’t interact with AI art” rule, and I just go “fuck that, my ‘don’t hurt people’ rule is good enough already.” I don’t even want to think about AI, let alone feel emotions about it.

Do not come at me about water use. People keep quoting contradictory statistics and then accusing the other people of lying about statistics, so I’m staying the hell out of it until I find some statistics I’m reasonably certain aren’t lies.

I just feel like, with all the massive problems in the world currently, AI is nowhere near the top. I just don't have the energy to care about that when there is so much outright evil going on right now.

Like Palantir?

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
There's so much outright evil... And AI is responsible for 90% of it. Because you can't blame a machine, the rich white programmers behind it are just some uwus poor guys in a big bad world (and they are in a sense) and the old big baddies love to use it. Even the small lousy 2kewl4school type of guy is using it for small acts of mischief from not working on their essay at all, sometimes not reading it to the point of leaving a prompt in the middle of the assignment to make fake nudes of the hot girl in class because the only thing "better" than a leaked sextape is a fake leaked sextape.

Not unlike every single "progress" that has come out in the past 100 years or so, normal decent people are supposed to keep clicking NO until we can't opt out anymore.

I know it's not DIRECTLY AI but...

So, the founder of 4chan met Epstein, then days later created /pol/...

Just sayin'...

Where's the so u hate pancakes meme when I need?

AYRT

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
No, I'm directly supporting the Anon above me's view. They pointed out that AI is mostly being pushed to promote edgelord behaviour, which was usually pushed out by the chan boards, things like Pizzagate, gamergate and The_Donald, mostly through memes and bad faith arguments. Before all those things began, the founder of 4chan met with Epstien, which suggests the whole thing was purposeful. AI is just another tool in their arsenal at best and an intentional fuck you got mine at worse.

It's not just the water use, it's the driving up of electric bills and potentially kicking people out of a job. And basically stealing art/writing/music from people. Use generative AI without heavy regulations, you are very much hurting people. Of course, if you accidentally use an AI pic, that's understandable. Given how fast it's evolving, I'm sure almost everyone will run into that at least once. But just saying "fuck it" or knowingly using it because you're "so far past caring" isn't great.

Then there's the more hideous side of it, surveilling the public to catch criminals with a system that's scanned by AI.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
The "not hurting people" policy is really more of a "plausible deniability" policy combined with a "if I didn't mean to hurt you then you can't get mad at me" policy.

"Is it hurting people?" is protection against every stupid moral panic that would take down Fandom Secrets. "This person writes about angels having gay sex!" Okay, but are they hurting people by doing so?

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. So basically, you only care about not hurting people over stupid shit that doesn’t matter, like fanfic. When it comes to people’s livelihoods, intellectual property, and the natural resources they need to survive, hurting them is way less important than you having to not use AI.

I’d say I was disappointed, but that actually totally tracks, given it’s you.

I need to update the RAM on my computer. Last time I did it, it was $120. Thanks to AI data centers, the same amount of RAM will cost me >$500. Thanks AI. :(

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Another human issue with the data centers is that they’re destroying small communities and causing major health problems for the people who were living there when they built the center. There are so many reasons not to use generative AI if you care about not hurting people or the environment. But apparently people can’t be bothered :(

[personal profile] feotakahari 2026-02-01 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
People keep saying AI is bad, and then talking about the reasons data centers are bad. AI is not the reason data centers exist, and it's not even that high of a percentage of what data centers do.

Electric bills, sure. I'll give you electric bills. But I am massively, massively against any argument not to use something that "puts people out of a job." If you can afford to pay someone for a job that machines could do anyway, you might as well just pay the person without having them do unnecessary labor for it.

The actual problem here, of course, is idiot CEOs thinking AI is good enough to do your job when it can't. But they'll learn their lesson when no one wants to buy their shitty products.

CW: Murder, Suicide, CSAM.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
I could give a few ways AI has hurt people, more than once has it lead to death because it feeds on psychosis, mostly suicides, but there was the recent case where it fed on a guy's paranoia, and he killed his mother then himself. You could argue he was already unwell, but AI clearly made it worse quicker, and there doesn't seem to be any means to reliably safeguard against this.

Grok has been used to edit pictures of random people online, including minors, to make them sexually explicit. They say they fixed it this time, but I doubt it's only happening there, and they said the same last time. So again, unreliably safeguards.

Then there is spreading misinformation, especially as AIvideos get too good.

I don't completely disagree with you or anything, if all they are doing is RPing or something, even if I subscribe to seeing it as trouble, I'll not crucify anyone for it, especially because I did it too early in its life and before with AIDungeon. I really wish AI was just a toy like Google Brain used to be, but it's not.
