Ships and switching

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
What ships do you prefer to be fixed in a top/bottom sense?

Which ships can you only see as switching?

Bonus points: which M/F ships can you only see as switching, or are they exempt?

If I want to read fic about them, my brain only does fixed shipping, so all of them.

Gomez and Morticia Addams switch, though. I won't read fic about it, but no one can convince me otherwise.

See, I'm less about top/bottom and more about dom/sub. I'm okay with any of them switching on positions, but I do have some preferences on dom/sub.

With my Buffy ships, Spike always subs, Angel aways doms, Buffy switches, Drusilla switches, Darla switches. Willow I actually think is more likely to sub and Tara do dom, but they can switch it up.

On Star Wars, Kylo/Ben is very, very sub. Rey and Hux are both doms, though very different types.

Most of my other ships I still actively read, I tend to think the characters switch it up at least some of the time, though maybe with preferences.

I can only see Destiel as a switching couple with Dean preferring to be a bottom. But IDK doesn't make sense to be to see Dean as 100% bottom 100% of the time. And Castiel would absolutely love to try bottoming (he'd probably complain about the preparation and cleaning process too much though).

I've always seen Spike/Buffy as switch. Buffy pegging Spike should be in more fics... He'd absolutely love it and wax poetics about it.

Hawks/Endeavor (Boku no Hero Academia) is a fixed top/bottom couple for me with Hawks at the top. Gotta give Enji what he needs even if he can't ask for it...

I only enjoy Victor/Jayce (Arcane) if Victor is a top. Especially hot if he's topping from the bottom or they are doing intricate positions to take in consideration his leg/spine.

Ymir/Christa (Shingeki no Kyojin) with Christa on top, ABSOLUTELY. But yeah possibly they'd switch with Christa doing the pillow princess routine just to please Ymir. Christa is 100% dom ALWAYS.

I prefer all my ships switch. I have no opinions on who tops/bottoms. I DO have strong opinions on which characters in my favorite ships are alphas or omegas.

ETA: And I guess I do have preferences about who subs/doms. But not as strong as ABO dynamics.

A lot when I have a fixed preference, it's less about what I find OOC/fitting my headcanons and more about what I personally find hot for the ship.

Like, I think most of my ships would switch or I don't have a specific headcanon for their roles, but I'm only interested in reading one top/bottom orientation for several of them, because I like the visual, I find something interesting about the character dynamic with those roles, or I think one character is hotter as the bottom.

I don't think I've ever really had a fixed top/bottom ship. Sometimes I go through phases where I only want to read about X topping, but it's more about fic cravings than headcanons if that makes sense.

Re: Ships and switching

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I mostly don't really care, I'm happy to read whatever so long as I enjoy the writing. I do have a few ships where I slightly prefer one character bottoming over the other but it's not so much that I won't ever read the alternative.

I'm actually way pickier about dom/sub and alpha/omega dynamics than top/bottom lol.

Could the recent ice storm in the southernish US slow spread of flu?

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yesterday I had a discussion about this with my coworker. We were both wondering if the recent ice storm might slow the spread of the flu. Think about it, many people were trapped at home for about a week. Is it possible that those who had the flu were less likely to spread it to others outside of their household, and during that week recovered, and maybe this will show as a reduction in flu at least for a few weeks? My coworker thought this seemed possible, and I do too. Does anyone know if this might actually be a thing, or are we just coming up with crazy theories?

Maybe it'll slow it down, maybe it'll be less overall this season, or maybe it's just going to delay it and it will hit later in the season than usual?

Re: Could the recent ice storm in the southernish US slow spread of flu?

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. We actually killed of a few strains of flu during the covid lockdowns and it was the lowest real number of flu cases needing hospitalization in decades.

It will definitely play a part. All of the schools and daycares being closed for so long plus everyone being housebound will definitely have an effect. I don't know if it will just be a break or a delay or lessen it overall though.

Re: Could the recent ice storm in the southernish US slow spread of flu?

(Anonymous) 2026-02-02 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
The reason that viruses spread more in cold weather is because people crowd together in small, warm indoor spaces, then take their germs to new small, warm indoor spaces. So if there's a break in that chain, yes, it will slow down spread.

But influenza is contagious for 24 hours before symptoms and 5-7 days after symptoms start, so it's going to depend on how long people really stayed home and what they do immediately after. A week is probably going to cause a small dip but nothing lasting.

Re: Could the recent ice storm in the southernish US slow spread of flu?

(Anonymous) 2026-02-02 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Not really, you need at least two-three weeks. You're contagious before you show symptoms, when you show symptoms (which can last for two-three weeks on its own if you get hit hard by it), and for about a week afterwards. To break the chain you need to take out enough time to prevent people wandering around without being infectious.

Advice

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone have any good ways for coping with PTSD triggers that you can't avoid?

Someone at my work is triggering my PTSD. I can't completely avoid them, and while I'm looking for a new job, I can't leave this one unless I have one lined up.

I haven't had to deal with my PTSD for years, so I'd forgotten what it feels like. And it is definitely affecting my job performance.

Re: Advice

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I try to mostly focus on PTSD management outside of the triggering situation, like making sure to spend time on self care, journaling, calming hobbies, to return to a calm baseline before I go back to the trigger. In the triggering situation I use grounding exercises to manage flashbacks. It's definitely hard to deal with PTSD at work, good luck OP.

Re: Advice

This happened to me too. What helped me was planning so that I wasn't surprised by them being in my area (which was much worse than psyching myself up to go to their area) and ramping up the coping strategies outside work, being really strict on my sleep schedule in particular. And making sure to spend at least 30 minutes outside every day.

Make a house a home

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
For a house to really feel cozy and like a home for me it has to have plants and books.

My friend says they need art on the walls.

What do you like to have that makes a house feel like a home? (Outside of pets and people.)

Books and bookshelves on lots of walls. Always lived in homes that were libraries.

Cat trees, cat toys, cat things.

Blankets, pillows, cushions, throws, plushies, etc. And lots of color.

Re: Make a house a home

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Good lighting, by which I mean WARM lighting and several light sources, none of that big cold light on the ceiling as a main source nonsense.

Art, cushy/comfortable furniture, lots of things to read.

The "layers of design" things: window treatments, area rugs, throw pillows. I know some people like the sleek, modern hotel vibe, but that feels like a sleek, modern hotel to me and not a home.

WoW queue won't pop

(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone else ever have this happen? Where their queue just won't fucking come up? I've been in this queue for over half an hour. The estimated wait time is currently 7 minutes. It has ranged from 6 minutes to 8 minutes the whole time I've been waiting. It's for timewalking. I queued as DPS. My guildie who queued after I did, also for DPS, has already had their queue pop after less than 10 minutes. We are on the same server. I'm so fucking frustrated. I just want to get this shit done.

I've had this happen before. Some characters seem to have this glitch where it just won't fucking work for excessive amounts of time if at all. It was very noticeable over Halloween year before last. I ran the event dungeon on a dozen characters. 10 of them get in within 2 to 5 minutes. 2 of them have these queues that are 15+ minutes. It's so fucking frustrating especially because one of the characters this happens to, is my fucking main.

Youtube...

(Anonymous) 2026-02-02 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
Dear Youtube. Will you fucking STOP it with the shitty auto-AI-dubbing? I get jumpscared every few days because it won't fucking remember the settings. I just want an option to always and forever disable auto-dubbing!

(Also, Spotify, stop shitting AI slopmusic into my recommendations. I'm paying for this, I demand an option to turn off any and all AI music.)
