I moved out at 16 and have never been back. Mom died five years ago and it was the most liberating thing ever. I moved close to dad and visit often but I wouldn’t ever move in with him. I’m very fortunate and privileged that I don’t have to, and also very grateful. I’m glad younger generations aren’t having kids just because it’s expected; my experience is that those parents only love their children if they grow up to be exactly how they wanted them.

Yeah, I won't lie, reading these threads has really made me go "Damn, a lot of y'all's parents shouldn't have been parents."

nayrt - This is probably true. But previous generations were more likely to have had kids because of societal pressures and because it was expected of them. A lot of people like the idea of kids, but not the reality of raising them. Or more specifically, they don't like the reality of raising children who grow up to be individuals with their own opinions and preferences.
