Good grief, just saw someone comment that the movie "Where the Wild Things Are" is bad because the CHILD boy "couldn't regulate his emotions" and that his mom is a "boy mom". People really don't know how to enjoy things anymore. It feels more like entertainment now is to find something to complain about.

Secret OP here
To clarify, nothing in the comment explained exactly what made the mom a "boy mom". It's been a while since I've watched the movie, but from what I can remember, Max's mom didn't do anything that coddled his feelings. She didn't let him get away with bad behavior.
Were they mad that at the end of the movie Max's mom fed him dinner?
Like....like...Max was out of line for acting out and hurting his mom. And for running away.
But Max's mom likely just wanted to make her child was safe after an emotionally charged situation/day, first of all. Second, it's not like Max acted out with the intent to hurt, scare and worry his mom. He's a child from a complicated family, like most children (yes, girls too!!).
And at no point in the movie did she excuse his bad behavior...

Not only that, the point of the story is Max is learning to deal with complex feelings because he's a kid. Every child has to learn the pains of growing older, and no longer being the center of attention in your family.

Did these people forget their own childhood? Do they want idealized portrayals of human beings? Unimaginative ways to cope with negative/complex emotions? To not even have negative emotions? I don't get how some people are engaging with movies o-o

There are definitely people out there who think that fiction should depict close-to-ideal behavior whenever possible, especially when it comes to children’s media.

I don’t actually know how many people like that there are, but I’ve run into some and I still struggle to wrap my head around that perspective.

This is insane to me but also I'm not surprised there are people that bad at watching a movie.

It doesn't help that the complaints are memetic to make them easier to remember, so these phrases just get applied to every single movie that checks off certain boxes like "has a young man as the lead, there is a mom figure he has conflict with" that kind of thing.

I believe there was some criticism of the book when it first came out because it was very unusual in portraying a child genuinely being “bad” and a few people thought it was setting a bad example.

The emotions of childhood were way too spot on for me in this movie. I saw it in theaters and skipped school the next day I was so bummed. (I was in my 20s so a couple of college classes at most, but still.)

This is the result of millennials reproducing.

You should see the state of the public school system in the US. Every kid is a list of disabilities, they all have ~reasons~ they can't attempt even basic tasks, and little Braxleighan can demolish half the desks in a classroom without punishment because admin is terrified of Mama Jessica suing the school if she gets a call saying her precious son destroyed property. But she gets even angrier if school has to close and she's stuck at home with her angel.

Sir/Ma'am, this is a Wendy's.

If you look at the data, the current dip in attention spans etc for students is across the developed world, not just in the US. It tracks extremely closely with widespread smartphone adoption.

Man, I really did not enjoy this movie, but those are extremely stupid fucking reasons to dislike it.
