Financial woes

(Anonymous) 2026-02-08 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
So tired of the struggle. I struggle so hard to just keep up, there is absolutely no chance of me getting ahead. A few years ago, I had over 3,000 in my savings, which isn't a lot, but it's something. Now, I have under $300. My checking account has around $400. And that money is already spoken for. It feels so hopeless. EVERYTHING is so expensive/needs money. Everything. I know people complain about groceries but for me it's just the expenses that pop up here there and everywhere, nonstop, that get to me. Any time I think I might be able to drop a couple hundred dollars in savings for once, nope, wrong, something comes up. I'm just so tired of it. And also physically tired. So worn down.

AND I'm terrified of losing my job, because if that happens, I have no idea what I'll do. And there have been some ominous signs at my work lately.

I feel this. I have 200 in my savings and owe 2000 on my credit card. A combination of being underpaid at my former job and having bad money habits. I'm working on it, but I also still let the bad habits get the best of me and buy things now rather than saving when I should.

I'm sorry, OP. I really hope things work out for you.

I'm in a similar boat too. I owe $2200 on my credit card, due at the start of March, and I have $1200 in my checking account. Around $400 in savings. I'll earn enough to pay off the card in full by the time it's due but I feel like every month I am chasing it.

I have to get better about telling myself NO to unnecessary spending. Bad habits are hard to kick.

That was us in the '08 crash. We had just bought our place and my now-wife lost her job, so we were surviving on just my income, and I still am massively underpaid. We racked up over 20k in debt staying afloat and housed until she gave up looking for a job and started her own business. Massive suckage.
