Coffee, milk, the occasional fruit juice (I'm very selective on sugar content and no dyes, and water it down anyway), tea, cocoa, iced tea depending on season. My partner drinks way more straight water than I do but also has a bad soda coping mechanism.

But, nonny, dear, you're describing the exact bad habits everyone knows is bad. That much energy drink and soda consumption has been shamed far and wide as bad for your health and even gamers with the shittiest diets admit it's bad. Sugar is an addiction, and if he can't/won't admit it and either commit to changes or get a doctor's help to change his diet, the resentment is going to lead to breakup, possibly sooner than later. Once it starts building, there's only two ends to resentment and only one of them is in your control.

Yeah, I know....and I know HE knows it's bad, but he just doesn't care. Straight up, zero fucks given. Between the health impact and the zero fucks given about the cost, I'm just getting reallllly frustrated with it because it just feels so unnecessary. We spend so much money on these drinks that it is genuinely ridiculous. I earn more than he does, and between the two of us, we save no money. And it shouldn't be that way, we should be putting money into savings each month. I wouldn't even care if he had a few of these a day, but like please limit it a little bit. Oh and delivery fees for food delivery too......

I don't want to break up, truly I love this man, but I am understanding more and more why people say MONEY is a serious problem with incompatibility. My parents were frugal to a really extreme degree and I'm not nearly as strict as they are, but I'll be honest, it kills my soul a little bit every time he does door dash instead of going to pick it up himself, or when he cracks open the 4th energy drink of the day.

nayrt - A person who cannot/will not manage their money is a huge liability in a relationship, which is why it tends to cause problems. It's theoretically possible to be in a relationship with someone and keep your finances separate, but IRL... ehhh. They're always going to drag you down in some way, particularly if their irresponsible spending means they can't hold up their end on bills, or if you end up funding your dates and travel because he doesn't have the money (because he spent it on shitty energy drinks). That's the minor stuff, mind you. It can get worse, much worse.

When someone is making bad choices and refuses to admit they're bad choices with negative repercussions for themselves and/or the people they care about, that's a big ol' red flag. Don't ignore red flags just because you love someone, that'll blow up in both your faces.

Absolutely. All of this is so true. I think you should enjoy life and not be a miser over every single penny, but energy drinks in particular are expensive, and he's having food delivered too? That adds up fast. Imagine that you could have gone on a nice trip or stuck a good chunk of money into savings for retirement, but instead he spent it on energy drinks.

Not to mention that they're both working and still have no money and no savings? I bet if OP added up all the money spent on drinks and food delivery per month, the amount would be upsetting. That man isn't living within his means.🚩 He's not even interested in trying to live within his means. 🚩

Not only does he see nothing wrong with spending money on stuff he can't afford, but he also feels entitled to drink/eat OP's stash, too. 🚩🚩🚩

Oh no, wider financial incompatibility, that's no bueno. Hate to say it but you might have to cut the purse strings and let him fund his own bad habits until he can feel the impact. Separate your finances before it's too late.

Please, nonny. I don't know you, but your story makes me sad for you, because you don't deserve this. You do not deserve to be stuck with a man you resent because his health is in the toilet due to his diet, a man who spends your money faster than you earn it, a man who is so greedy he refuses to stop himself from eating food before you can eat it. I don't want you to be trapped ten years from now in a shitty apartment with terrible credit, no savings and one emergency away from being evicted.

A man like this will hurt you and ruin your life, if you let him. Don't let him do this to you. A man who loved you would not do the things you've described.
