I noticed a gap in their marketing and emailed them about it, very nonchalantly said at the end that they could hire me if they wanted. I was REALLY shocked when they actually sent me a job proposal.
But when I replied to schedule a meeting...they never got back to me. They ghosted me. And I can't tell anyone about this, because I feel like the fandom will probably get mad at the company for doing this. I don't want anyone to blame the company since they actually don't owe me anything.
It was always too good to be true. But I just feel so sad about it, especially now that everyone is talking about this other fan that got the same thing and actually got hired.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-15 05:58 am (UTC)(link)I've been in similar shoes, and it's so hard not to feel bitter and comparative. I don't wish ill on the person who got doors opened for them, but I can't help but think "why couldn't that have been me?"

(Anonymous) 2026-02-15 07:10 am (UTC)(link)Not hearing back on a job offer isn't that uncommon though, especially since your interaction was so casual. It doesn't take away the hurt, not at all, especially since HBO made famous a thing you essentially had proposed. That absolutely sucks.
Still, I don't think you owe them your silence either. I'm sure I'm missing some context, but they never profited off your idea, I assume? My guess is that whoever fielded the emails saw potential in yours and sent it up the ranks. It got high enough to offer potential work, but perhaps because they heard of HBO's fancam they either nixed it, or the people who dealt with the money required the offer to go through official means that bureaucracy took you out of, or more likely decided against it. Regardless, you should never consider yourself ghosted, this shit happens a lot. And I think it would do you well to talk about this with your fandom friends.
