Have you heard about the Heated Rivalry fancam editor that got hired by HBO? Well, that almost happened to me. It wasn't video editing, I do a different kind of fan edits. And it wasn't HBO, it was a smaller online content brand that I really really love.
I noticed a gap in their marketing and emailed them about it, very nonchalantly said at the end that they could hire me if they wanted. I was REALLY shocked when they actually sent me a job proposal.

But when I replied to schedule a meeting...they never got back to me. They ghosted me. And I can't tell anyone about this, because I feel like the fandom will probably get mad at the company for doing this. I don't want anyone to blame the company since they actually don't owe me anything.

It was always too good to be true. But I just feel so sad about it, especially now that everyone is talking about this other fan that got the same thing and actually got hired.

Coming of age in the 90s, I read Wuthering Heights in school. It was the only required reading I devoured.

Then I spent the rest of my adult life either keeping quiet about it or trying to persuade haters that I wasn't a silly, brainless girl for romanticizing its trashiness.

And I'm done. I love it. Period. Completely and unapologetically. IDGAF what anyone thinks that says about me as a person. And I feel vindicated by the new adaptation. I feel like it's finally OK to revel in its death-by-uncontrollable-passion glory. I feel free.

I don't understand the mindset of people who upon seeing a thread or a post dedicated to a dead celebrity and just comment "I don't care. I was never a fan. People die every day. Get over it"
If you really don't care . Why even comment in the thread? To get attention? To piss off the fans?

I pretty much never read reviews before reading a book. I only like to read them after finishing the book to see what other people thought. Sometimes they make me see the book in a different light or highlight things I didn't notice on my way through so it's nice. But I have zero interest in discussing or debating those thoughts with randos, only in browsing people's reactions, taking in the interesting bits, and discarding the rest.

I do most of fandom the same way.

Games thread!

You can lay that blame at the source material. Hot take, but Pinocchio never was a great novel, more like one long, heavy-handed cautionary tale.

Remember those people in high school who thought that being cool meant you had to not care about anything anyone else cared about, and always had to make sure everybody knew how much they didn't care?

Those people got older, but didn't grow up or learn any better.

That's all, really.

Reminder: "Secrets you don't want to make..." thread is still up!

I don't care for the book, but figured I'm in the minority because almost 200 years later new editions are still being published and new adaptations are being made. I think OP has plenty of company liking this book?

Yep, this. Unfortunately.

I don't have anything against reading book reviews, but I don't have a trusted source. Maybe word of mouth from friends, whose tastes I know are similar to mine but that's not exactly official. Other than that, I'm with you, OP... just give me a decent plot summary and I'll decide whether or not I want to read it.

I'd guess insecurity.

Even if one believes others shouldn't mourn a famous person they've never met, they're clearly bothered that this belief is being challenged. A person can have that belief and just... say nothing as well.

That donkey transformation haunted my childhood dreams. That is a messed up movie.
