I don't understand the mindset of people who upon seeing a thread or a post dedicated to a dead celebrity and just comment "I don't care. I was never a fan. People die every day. Get over it"
If you really don't care . Why even comment in the thread? To get attention? To piss off the fans?

Remember those people in high school who thought that being cool meant you had to not care about anything anyone else cared about, and always had to make sure everybody knew how much they didn't care?

Those people got older, but didn't grow up or learn any better.

That's all, really.

Yep, this. Unfortunately.

I'd guess insecurity.

Even if one believes others shouldn't mourn a famous person they've never met, they're clearly bothered that this belief is being challenged. A person can have that belief and just... say nothing as well.

I see this on threads here sometimes. People will reply with "So?" or "I don't care" and just...why? Why bother replying? You don't have to be a part of every conversation. Sometimes people aren't talking to you, and you can just scroll on by.

But everyone must know what the main character thinks

(Anonymous) 2026-02-15 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
This made me chuckle.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-15 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
You mean you don't feel more connected to me after I tell you how much better I am than you for not caring about the ways you may have connected to a deceased individual and/or their works?! HOW DARE YOU

I was always under the impression that people say that out of jealousy. They're jealous of seeing a celebrity mourned, because deep down, they know nobody will mourn them when they pass away.

And this secret is how I learned that Angela Lansbury had finally passed away.

Controversial take: I know all the Scientology stuff is dodgy as fuck, but Kirsty Alley was a damn good comedic actress.

you're welcome to your opinion but I don't share it. I found her acting so unconvincing that I kept thinking her character on Cheers was lying constantly. Her whiny raspy voice also drove me nuts.

She was the worst Saavik though... But hey, every actor figures out what their strengths and weaknesses are.

There are quite a few celebs whose work I enjoyed... and as long as they don't get into anything too dodgy, I often forget about their Scientology memberships. (I know, Scientology bad and I agree. But I refer to stuff like Danny Masterson being a convicted rapist. Holy hell)

It depends on what's said really. I think I've seen somewhere close to 50/50 when sometimes people go out of their way to be assholes, but other times the OP says something in their grief that people might object to... (see comment above?)

I do agree with you though OP, it's heartless to go out of your way to insult someone who's died for no reason like that, but just take yesterday's secrets into contention and it explains a lot.
Some people are just that miserable, and others just enjoy it. Pathetic, either way.

Some people are miserable.

And some people are trying to sound a warning too. Granted, it's hard to tell when both are posting at the same time. But not everyone who posts something that isn't glowing praise of the person or the thing you like isn't a troll.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-15 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
*is a troll, but I guess isn't could equally apply
