USA and Canada hockey is the final!

I had to laugh at this, though; the players quoted say the most banal things.

Brady Tkachuk:

“I mean, they’ve been the top dog. They’ve been the best for the last bunch of years, and for us, we want to be in that position, be the best. So it’s going to be a game where I think a lot of guys could say, this is the biggest game that they’ve ever played in.”

Connor McDavid:

“It is the game everybody wanted and hoped for, and it will be a great game,” he said. “It now comes down to one game between two teams. It is a hockey game, and we are excited about that. Team Canada playing Team USA in a hockey game – that is what it is.

It is a hockey game.

I wanna make a meme with inspiring photos of the biggest player on each team, overlaid by the Canadian and American flags, and put "IT IS A HOCKEY GAME" along the bottom.

I figure when the press metaphorically shoves mics in your face and demands statements about a hockey game, that's what comes out. I can't blame them for sounding banal unless they're the ones contacting the press to get their words out there (highly doubtful)

With hockey, it used to be (not sure if they do it now) that you got lessons on how to deal and interact with the press once you reached a certain level of the game. (at least in North America) It's why most interviews sound the same and they don't have much reaction even to more invasive questioning.
