I'm not in the fandom (lOVED the movie though) so I won't comment on the specifics of this secret. I will say though that as someone who's main fandom ship is quasi-incestual (it's...complicated, particularly due to translation differences) and who has had straight up incest ships before, fandom is general seems a lot more hostile to incest ships than in the past. I'm not surprised a twin incest ship isn't more popular. You even see this in fandoms where it's CANON (see the pearl-clutching with The Coffin of Andy and Leyley). The surge in moral grandstanding is real.

I mean, I dunno. I'm a fan of an incest pairing from a game that's about 13 years old at this point, and there was a lot of hostility toward the ship back when the game was new. The most popular content creators would get plenty of anonymous hate and rude comments, and posts complaining about the ship would regularly show up in the main fandom tag on Tumblr.

So, I think it's a YMMV situation. There are definitely fandoms where incest has traditionally been accepted, but in others, the disapproval has been there for awhile.

AYRT
Fair. When I was younger, I was mostly in anime fandoms, in the livejournal/fanfiction.net days. It was definitely a different vibe.
