I remember once coming across a discussion wherein one person was complaining that in Discord, if you block someone, then it only blocks them for you. The reason this bothered them is that they could not stop thinking about the fact that someone they'd blocked was still present on the server they were in, and felt a constant temptation to unblock them and see what they were saying. Since they were willing this temptation, they felt that the person they'd blocked was actively harassing them by continuing to exist on the server, despite making no attempts to circumvent the block.

I share this anecdote because I agree with you, but also I think sometimes people like this are actually motivated more by a desire to control other people than by a desire for personal comfort.

I think that basically describes the reason for a good percentage of misery in the world.

Also that story is hilarious to me. I've blocked people in Discord but have never had that problem of even noticing they were still in the server?

AYRT

Right! I've rarely felt the need to block anyone, but when I have, I haven't really thought about them again (well, except for right now), let alone worried about them still being out there, somewhere, on the same platform as me. To obsess over someone you've blocked and who is no longer even trying to interact with you is kind of the definition of a "you" problem.

You're not wrong.
