I'm honestly sick and tired of all of the women who try to imply that if you, as a woman, don't buy and play games aimed at women, you're somehow a sexist/misogynist.

I don't play those games because I hate romance and dress-up and cozy sims and rhythm games and those are 99% of what games marketed towards women are. There's nothing misogynistic about it because I don't play BL games either - I'm not into the dating sim aspects. I just don't find those things interesting or fun. Let me kill monsters and do platforming puzzles!

If any company actually made action games starring a cast of attractive guys (AND NO ROMANCE OR SELF-INSERT MCS), I'd be all over that. Give me some fun gameplay while I get to stare at a hot dude's ass, thanks. But until then? No, I'm not going to waste my money on stuff I won't enjoy even if it's ostensibly made for women, because women aren't a monolith.

Yeah fuck that noise I was raised on DooM and Rise of the Triad and I will die on that gory hill.

why do we have these takes in the year 2026? how tiring. is this a mainstream sentiment now? never heard something like this before and I've been happily gaming since 1995.
I play mainly point and click adventures (old lucas art style), horror games (dead space, silent hill), old FPS (doom, heretic) and strategy games I've never perceived it like a "gendered" thing.

we're really doing "i'm not like girls i like REAL GAMES not shit girly for brainless bitches who only think about romance" in 2026

(Anonymous) 2026-03-01 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
only dumb bitches like stardew valley, the sims, or infinity nikki!

(Anonymous) 2026-03-01 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Guys can be dumb bitches too!

Oh, man, my husband will get into a annual Sims hole, and he was super into Animal Crossing when New Horizons came out.

I think this is just a long-standing tension in the culture, exacerbated by general gender bullshit.

On the one hand, women feeling judged and criticized for not doing “appropriately feminine things”, feeling excluded from the group of “normal women”, and feeling hostility when getting involved in “masculine interests”. On the other hand, the temptation to criticize “normal women” and things associated with stereotypical femininity.

How would you re-write this secret to represent the same feelings of frustration, but not stray into “not like other girls” territory?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-02 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Not the OP but I get the feeling their general sentiment is for more types of games TO be aimed at women. FPS, action-adventures, platformers, aim those specifically at women too and OP will happily buy them, but it's wrong to call them misogynist for not being interested in the existing genres that are currently marketed specifically to female audiences?

This seems a little overly sensitive to me. The secret is talking about games that are aimed specifically toward women vs games that are not. Nobody said anything about "real" games and OP never said romance games aren't real games, only that their preferences are elsewhere.

Somehow I don't think OP describing their preferred game as "staring at a guy's ass" is placing those other games on the "real game" pedestal like you think they are.

seriously, the pick me vibes are RANCID

(Anonymous) 2026-03-02 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
???
Did you read the secret?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-02 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and we are doing "woman disliking pink because she is fed up with it and expectations from girls means she is a stupid sexist bitch" in 2026, aren't we?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-02 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
More like we are doing "woman disliking pink because she just doesn't like the way the color looks and there's no deeper reason than that means she is a stupid sexist bitch."

You are literally one step away from asking all women to be tradwives. "Oh my god, you don't like girl games? You're so cool and different! I bet you don't like cooking and cleaning either! I bet you don't even want a husband or kids!"

(Anonymous) 2026-03-01 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not as if there's a huge market of dating games aimed at men or anything, and that plenty of men also play the Sims. No it's only for the wimmins because they're soft games or something I guess, clearly only GIRLS would like that dumb shit right?

I’m feeling especially stupid today because I genuinely don’t understand what you’re responding to. Is this aimed at OP? At games marketing? At the people OP is complaining about?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-02 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
DA I dunno either, people seem very upset about this over things OP did not say or imply. Literally all they said is they're into games other than those aimed at women by the corporations that make them. Nothing about the women that like them. Nothing about if any games are better or worse than others.

But people are responding like OP said the only game women play is Nintendogs.

Reminds me of when the news station was doing a school holiday segment and suggested Trolls and the One Direction movie for girls 🙄

(Anonymous) 2026-03-02 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
This isn't a "this never happens" thing, honest! I know people can be weird about similar things, plus where you are online.

But did something happened somewhere? I don't think I've seen this sentiment anywhere. It is weird thought, one thing is to despise "girly" gameplay or see them as inherently lesser, but another is to expect everyone to enjoy it.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-02 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Never seen a direct 'if you don't do this you're misogynist' but I've seen lesser versions of it around in the form of 'support female creators (or else you're not supportive of female creators)' where the games in question are usually romance or VNs, or about showing support for games that are for women and showing there's a market there, etc etc

(Anonymous) 2026-03-02 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I have seen this kind of vibe, too. I'm not very articulate or very good at putting my thoughts into words, but I do find myself getting a little frustrated when I encounter people who say "Support women!" and treat that as though all women should support all other women at all times, and if you don't like something for/by women, it means you're a misogynist. Obviously I don't run into this very often, but there ARE times when people want to dismiss valid critique or a simple preference as misogyny, vs someone simply not liking something.

For example, I think astrology is really fucking stupid. I don't mean to offend anyone who likes it, you absolutely do you, and I have never and would never go into a space where people are talking about it and shit on it/those people, but privately I do think that is some of the dumbest shit I see. But I have seen people complain that it's misogyny to criticize astrology, since more women than men are into it. But, like, I see plenty of other things that are more male-dominated that I think are also stupid. Crypto bros, the stock market day trader GameStop bros, all the NFT shit that was going on. The NFT shit was EVEN DUMBER than astrology, tbh, and that tended to have more men involved in it. I also just have no interest in sports whatsoever and that is definitely a more masculine thing.

And I get it because there is honestly SO MUCH MISOGYNY out there, and I DO think that stuff that typically has more of a female fanbase gets much more criticism than stuff that typically has a male fanbase. But at the same time, I don't like it when people act as though you're a misogynist if you criticize a "female" interest.

Have you tried JRPGs? There are a lot with devs who try to cater to female players with attractive male characters and slashbait.

And god, I'm so sorry you've gotten some defensive Stardew Valley enjoyers up your ass thinking you're attacking them and being a pick me for not being the most stereotypically girly girl gamer. I like cozy "girly" games AND killing shit with swords, what do y'all have to say about me? Quirky doesn't-fit-in-a-box manic pixie dream girl doing it for the male attention, perhaps?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-02 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yikes, I agree that women aren't a monolith. We don't like the same things, and not all women need to engage with everything that is marketed toward them. Not fair to expect other women to engage with media they're not interested in. It's not inherently anti-women.

I've never been into video games. And yes, I've played all different types of games. It's more of a me thing that most games don't interest me enough to play. Nothing to do with if it's geared toward boys/men or girls/women.
