My father just sent me a text with a random fact and followed it up "it is a good day when we learn."

I'm a good cook and love to bake and I just read that the reason your dough gets stuck to your roller is because you're pressing too hard! Literally learned that an hour ago, I'll have to test it out myself before I recommend it though.

Huh, I thought it was just because my dough was too wet. I'll have to keeo this in mind for the next time I roll something out!

That is another cause, but so long as you have a light dusting of flour on the surface, dough, and roller, it's all about pressure after that. Allegedly.

The translation of the African language (don't know exactly which one) in the opening of The Lion King's "Circle of Life" is apparently "There's a lion! Oh my god!"

So I saw this but apparently the guy who did the translation is not a native speaker and is translating it too literally. Native speakers have been kind if tearing him down.

AYRT
Ah. I just liked the idea that it was that simple, but I can't say I'm surprised.

the original Zulu lyrics to the song "the Lion Sleeps Tonight" was based on actually refer to sneaking up on lions in order to kill and eat them....

I always chose that song in the diner jukebox as a kid because I loved lions. I never knew it was based on a Zulu song. I'm glad child me didn't know what the original was about because I probably would have never picked it again and cried if it started playing because someone else did.

Ok, my favorite random fact is that computer bugs were named after an actual, literal bug in a system.

Insects are little critters with six legs. No other creepy crawly counts.

Thomas Edison invented interviews, so the next time you have one you can say "fuck you" to him.

There’s no such thing as zero-calorie foods. Even low-calorie foods, such as celery and watercress, contain more energy than the body needs to process them.

Platypuses sweat milk. This is because it doesn't have teats. Milk appears as sweat on a platypus, but it's an aquatic mammal so it doesn't actually sweat at all.

It's not sweat, it's a milk patch! Echidnas have one, too. Lots of earlier mammals did, but they're the only two still around. Everyone else developed nipples.
