I don't care if it make me a "bad" fan, or a bad person. I simply have no interest in Wakanda and its related shenanigans in Marvel's Cinematic Universe, and you cannot make me care.

Who's trying to make you?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Racist!

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You jest, but I'm pretty sure this type of reaction is what these OPs are aiming for when they make secrets like this.

Yeah, there were definitely a vocal group of fans saying if you lkie MCU movies and don't like Wakanda then you must be racist. Obviously I don't agree with those fams but I absolutely see why OP might feel this needs to be kept secret.

I didn’t take it as aiming for that reaction but rather expecting it. I’ve seen a lot of that with the MCU fandom where you have to love all things Wakanda or you’re racist. The fact of that in itself being racist is an irony totally lost on those sorts of performative fans.

I don't either and no one has tried to make me...????

With something as expansive and branching as the MCU, I’m curious which sets of stories or characters people tend to be attracted to. I think there’s definitely a fantasy/sci-fi scale, for one thing.

With Wakanda, the whole monarchy and national/international politics is not something I think they do well or at least not in a way that interests me either.

But I did enjoy some of the characters in the first movie and the AfroFuturist aesthetic.

I liked the first Black Panther movie, but haven't gotten around to watching the second. When do the MCU Police come to kick down my door?

Same here.

Luckily for you, they're all busy trying to force OP to be interested while OP valiantly resists

Not liking it doesn't make you a bad fan. Feeling the need to specifically point out about this one part of the MCU and only this part? A little questionable.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh. That's a bit like saying, oh, you made a comment about how awful [this one issue] is? But how about [all these other legit problems in the world], huh? Are you okay with all of those problems because you only mentioned one of them just now?

Like I get what you're implying, but this approach in fandom AND real life is so tedious.

I don't care about any Avengers who aren't in the core starting MCU lineup. So the Wakanda heroes, Ant Man, Scarlet Witch, Dr. Strange, etc. That's just the way I am in this fandom.

Nobody has tried to make me care about these other characters?
