Do you rec fics? Or anything in particular regularly?

Re: Based on 6

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
When people ask for them. I don't make rec lists or anything.

I rec fics on here all the time! I also have a tiktok where I make weekly rec posts. I sometimes crosspost them to my Tumblr as well.

And on my non famdom tiktok, I'll rec horror books. Or if anyone here needs some horror book recs, I read at least 12 a year!

I used to rec fics I liked when I was active in the Tolkien fandom. These days I haven't read much new and I only occasionally post on my TUmblr, so not much anymore.

I'm usually too insecure to rec stuff because I always angst about "but what if other people don't like it???". I sometimes rec CN BL novels when asked but I tend to only do it under caveats like "Well I don't really know if this is your thing" etc. - which probably is a bit annoying.

Secret Update: Kinktober "Trauma"

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I submitted a secret (via the Secretmaker) a few weeks back about a girl in my fandom who was traumatized by Kinktober because someone else's stories were more popular. It turns out that she must be a glutton for punishment because she posted a couple days ago that she plans on participating again this year.

Pfft, naturally.

Maybe it makes me a bad person, but this is the kind of drama entertainment I get a kick out of.

What sort of RPG protagonists do you play

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
when given the option to character create?

Sexy hero/ine fantasy?
Power hero/ine fantasy?
Self-insert mary sue?
Evil McEvilface?
Normal person who gets dragged into larger events?

Never a self insert. Just not my thing. I have noticed a pattern that I like to play butch ladies and fem men.

Re: What sort of RPG protagonists do you play

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
For me it's closest to the last one. Someone who doesn't want to be at the center of events but somehow ends up there. Team Dad / Team Mom, often wise spellcasters, usually significantly older than the cast.

20 year old characters unavoidably flirting sexily at mine definitely throw me out of stories a lot. They were built for a certain type of player playing a certain type of character and you can tell

A mix. I don't make self-inserts so whatever character I make is 'themselves' if you will. So I've played evil characters, the heroic Good Guy type, the misunderstood asshole, whatever I think might be fun and fits the setting for me.

If I had to pick a most common type via DnD alignment I think I do tend to gravitate towards the neutral good archetype on first play-throughs, and then I'll try something different if I do second, third and fourth runs.

Only RPGs I've ever done was this roleplay game I used to play on Livejournal where we played fandom characters and did a spy game. I almost always played villains.

Power hero jiggalo. I mainly play Skyrim and I switch between a few characters and races. All are men I find attractive and all are bi so the sex scenes always have someone I find attractive in them (Skyrim doesn’t have many attractive men who are romancable). I use mods but the ones for making everyone romanceable tend to break the game so I just use things like Nether’s Followers Framework to build an adventuring party. We clear caves and bandit hideouts and kill dragons and have a lot of sex.

Never the sexy type because that's not what I'm interested in (I might play a romance route if the character interests me but it's not very important to me).
Also never evil. I have tried but even moderate evil actions make me uncomfortable. I challenged myself to play a more grey than fully redeemed/resisting Durge and I really struggle sometimes, even though I'm not going full evil.

I think it's mainly a mix of normal person who gets dragged into larger events and power fantasy - in the sense of "Normal person who gets dragged into larger events and rises to the occasion". And I personally would like to be more consistent with actually roleplaying the character I chose, with all consequences but my own morals and opinions tend to override what the actual character SHOULD do in a lot of cases.

Catch-Up

[personal profile] philstar22 2026-03-07 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Any of your usual media you've gotten behind on or caught up on recently?

I'm finally catching up on 911. Actually enjoying this season again now that they are back on earth. First 4 episodes this season were really bleh. But 5 was decent and 6 and 7 were good.

I waited for all of season 4 of Bridgerton to be out before watching it and I binged it all over the last weekend lol. I really, really enjoyed it, especially after a really weak season 3 insofar as the main romance went(I liked other bits of season 3 which I why I was able to finish it). But for me the style of romance they were going for between the leads was extremely up my alley so I think it's ended up being my fave season so far, I've already rewatched it once and might do again. :P

But otherwise I'm waiting for season 2 of Once Piece to air because that was good fun and I'm looking foward to more.

YouTube started showing me Bridgerton clips (that I assume are from the last season) and I found myself surprisingly interested in it, not usually being a fan of the genre. I wonder if it’s a similar thing of a different style of romance being more appealing to me.

Re: Catch-Up

(Anonymous) 2026-03-07 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Whether you'll like it will be very YMMV because romance styles and genres aren't for everyone, but imo this season has lent far more into the comedy aspects than prior seasons(which still had funny moments but were certainly more Dramatic), and as someone who enjoys the long form K-Drama rom-coms it was exactly up my alley for that reason.

That's not to say that there's no drama at all, even rom-coms get to a drama point for the couple and this season does that too, but overall it felt like they were going for a fantasy-regency rom-com more than romance drama if that makes sense? Oh also shut off any knowledge about the Recency period you may have as it plays very fast and loose with that, but it never promised historical accuracy so it's never bothered me.

Thanks, that makes perfect sense and lines up nicely with my impressions from afar.

I haven’t caught up on Fallout season 2 or Slow Horses season 5 yet.

With Fallout, I think I’m a little apprehensive about what they’re going to do with the characters and I’m resisting finding out what choices they actually made.

With Slow Horses, I just cooled down on the whole series and I stopped watching it together with a friend, so it’s been easy to put off indefinitely.

Oh, and I keep forgetting they even made a second season of The Gold.

Years ago I heard "Search Party" is really good, finally got around to watching it. I finished season 1 and started season 2, but I don't know if I want to keep watching it.

It's a funny as hell show, many times I was howling with laughter. I enjoy a cast of extremely selfish and vapid characters (and TBH that's literally the point of the show, we're following a group of selfish millennials), but IDK...it's this feeling of as zany and unpredictable as this show gets - which I like - I can't help but feel like I won't like where it ends and I'll be annoyed that I wasted time watching a show that drags into too absurd for me to enjoy or boring and pandering.
