Sexy hero/ine fantasy?
Power hero/ine fantasy?
Self-insert mary sue?

Normal person who gets dragged into larger events?

Never a self insert. Just not my thing. I have noticed a pattern that I like to play butch ladies and fem men.

For me it's closest to the last one. Someone who doesn't want to be at the center of events but somehow ends up there. Team Dad / Team Mom, often wise spellcasters, usually significantly older than the cast.

20 year old characters unavoidably flirting sexily at mine definitely throw me out of stories a lot. They were built for a certain type of player playing a certain type of character and you can tell

A mix. I don't make self-inserts so whatever character I make is 'themselves' if you will. So I've played evil characters, the heroic Good Guy type, the misunderstood asshole, whatever I think might be fun and fits the setting for me.

If I had to pick a most common type via DnD alignment I think I do tend to gravitate towards the neutral good archetype on first play-throughs, and then I'll try something different if I do second, third and fourth runs.

Only RPGs I've ever done was this roleplay game I used to play on Livejournal where we played fandom characters and did a spy game. I almost always played villains.

Power hero jiggalo. I mainly play Skyrim and I switch between a few characters and races. All are men I find attractive and all are bi so the sex scenes always have someone I find attractive in them (Skyrim doesn’t have many attractive men who are romancable). I use mods but the ones for making everyone romanceable tend to break the game so I just use things like Nether’s Followers Framework to build an adventuring party. We clear caves and bandit hideouts and kill dragons and have a lot of sex.

Never the sexy type because that's not what I'm interested in (I might play a romance route if the character interests me but it's not very important to me).
Also never evil. I have tried but even moderate evil actions make me uncomfortable. I challenged myself to play a more grey than fully redeemed/resisting Durge and I really struggle sometimes, even though I'm not going full evil.

I think it's mainly a mix of normal person who gets dragged into larger events and power fantasy - in the sense of "Normal person who gets dragged into larger events and rises to the occasion". And I personally would like to be more consistent with actually roleplaying the character I chose, with all consequences but my own morals and opinions tend to override what the actual character SHOULD do in a lot of cases.

I like the dialogue you get for a high Wisdom stat (if the game has Wisdom) or a high Intelligence stat (if the game doesn’t have Wisdom.) Looking at the arguments the bad guys make and taking apart why they don’t work, trying to find the solution that everyone benefits from, or just messing around with machines to open new opportunities.
