Re: Do you consume true crime?

I used to but the ones I listened to declined a LOT in quality so I ditched them. The only one I still watch is "Well I never" because the host seems so nice and it's all historical cases that are presented in a tasteful manner.

Had some bad experiences as a kid that involved a lot of pain.

My girl had my sister's ex pegged. He's the only human I've ever seen her actively dislike, and it turned out he was bad.

The latter has gotten far too normalized lately, that's for sure. I do think the "kys" assholes existed back then, but in smaller numbers. Either that, or the separated spaces made it harder for the assholes to find each other, possibly.

So many conservatives want to use amazing music while campaigning against everything that inspired the amazing music. Baffling.

There are aspects of fandom that are worse, but also I really appreciate that you don't get kicked out of fandom spaces for liking gay ships nowadays, YEAH. I think that there are a lot of things that are cyclical, like the things that are worse right now aren't new, are not due to tumblr, they're just some of the things that were also a problem in the lj days, in the mailing list days...

The only real new problem is access to creators being so much more, and the things that come with that-- entitlement for some, or showing creators fanworks that they do not need to be shown for others (or asking about rpf, good lord). Every other issue that I find annoying, I recognize as just a new wave of the same old shit people did back then too. Like, yes, there are some etiquette breakdowns, there are influxes of new fans who don't necessarily know how to behave in fan spaces, and some of them might not want to learn because the people they see complaining are 'too old' to have fun, but like... there were plenty of fan spaces back in the day that did not prize etiquette as a rule! And the generation thing is not new.

Re: Doctor, Dentist, Hospital?

I like my current doctor but I don't enjoy *going* just because I get worked up over all the medical stuff and I get anxious and I hate having my blood pressure taken. But with that one, because I finally have someone who I trust, and the office's policies are very focused on patient comfort and consent, I can handle it when I have to.

I CANNOT handle the dentist. They have to drug me like an anxious animal going to the vet, they really have to knock me on my ass with the good shit or I will have a panic attack. And the good dentist I managed to build a relationship with no longer takes my insurance, so I did recently cry at the new dentist just because I was getting so panicky during new patient intake and exam, and I'm really not sure if I can keep going there, it really all depends on how they handle the next appointment, because I felt very pressured and not respected in regards to my personal autonomy, whereas at the previous place, any time I needed them to stop, they would give me a chance to breathe and decide if I could continue, and this guy just kept scraping and poking while I was having a breakdown.

I have a weird relationship with hospitals in that I have spent so much time in them as a kid that there is something oddly comfortable about like... being in a hospital as a non-patient? Like I am the person who will gladly sit in a chair overnight if someone I love is in the hospital and be fine. But I CANNOT be a hospital patient, between my intense fear of surgery and the trauma I've had as a patient.

+1 Ditto when they tell me I'm obligated to like something just to be a Good Fan. I am Old and have no fucks to give.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-11 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. People could also be banned for bad behavior.

This secret IS awesome! Love everything about it, the content and the design. Kudos to both OP and secret maker <3

Neurodivergent with genetically weak enamel, growing up in an environment where nd kids are just weak and need to learn to suck it up and oh your enamel is thin because you're a bad person who isn't brushing and oh my god, it's so annoying you whine and cry you should be able to do this without any kind of painkiller = every visit is sensory hell, just getting a cleaning is painful as hell, learned shame for not being good enough at something I have no control over. This has not gotten better as an adult. I only go to dentists when absolutely unavoidable, which has been once in the last 15 years (1 cavity). Thankfully my own genetically missing teeth have not caused any issues (no wisdom teeth, missing one incisor).

Nope.
The closest thing I do is watching Law & Order SVU and that sometimes has cases inspired by true life events, but most of the time I don't even get it at first because I don't live in the USA and I'm not that exposed to those news. I give SVU a pass because they usually change tons of details and make the real life implications ignorable (they sometime change victims/culprits and/or prosecution result), but I usually try to avoid anything true crime as much as possible. it disturbs me and I don't get the appeal.

Found the anti.

I literally got run off of a shipping comm when others on there found out I was a lesbian, but sure fandom today is so much worse.

Like there's shitty parts to fandom today because there always has been, but with m/m getting more popular it's helped to make attitudes towards irl gay people better, no perfect, but better and I can exist openly now when before I fucking couldn't.

I never liked the Skuntank line because they made fart noises in the games

Aint that the truth.

A lot of the ways movies and books geared toward women are presented seem so heavily influenced by the success of 50 Shades of Grey and I question if I'd been too kind to it and its fanbase with the whole YKINMKATOK attitude, because maybe we don't need so much of everything to be fanfic smut.

Maybe I should write my own secret....most times I have no idea what song is playing. I feel tone deaf or something because all I can hear are instruments playing. My mind doesn't connect the notes to the pop song.

Yes, and
Option 1: Engage and go into keyboard warrior mode
Option 2: Find ways to be in fandom but not interact unless absolutely needed
Option 3: Block and/or leave fandom

I don't have to have a mammogram, I had x rays and I'm going to have an ultrasound and blood work later, the obnoxious woman just wanted to bring mammograms up, or, as she pronounced it, "moe moe". I wish I was kidding.

Re: Do you consume true crime?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-11 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
nope

and I do kind of look down on anybody who does

not going to make a stink about it or harass anybody or dumbshit like that, but I do quietly think less of people

Re: Doctor, Dentist, Hospital?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-11 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
they're often used interchangeably as the two most common OTC painkillers and fever reducers, but they really SHOULDN'T be - they have different mechanisms and very different side effects and risk profiles for overuse/overdose, and for a specific person/issue one may be much better than the other

in this case the doctor is absolutely a dick, but that's because he was condescending instead of helpful and and informative, not because the differences aren't worth learning

You know what's funny is I was just thinking about a secret about 1-2 years ago where Secret OP was like "People are so mean to me just because I identify as an anti."
XD

IME we don't go looking for anti, they always announce their entrance with the grace of Yosemite Sam.

Yeah, what went through my mind was that I have found more accepting spaces in the past 3-4 years than I did in old fandom spaces. There had to be a period of calling out gatekeeping and then learning that some gatekeeping is needed for fandom to grow a little (as in maturing).
Fandom's still got all sorts of issues but things back in the day weren't better. Different. But not better.
