I also didn't know anything about the history of figure skating, so I have learned something today, although I definitely appreciated the informative responses more than the condescending and rude ones. I think you expressed yourself just fine, you simply didn't know the history and some of the things that have happened. Definitely there wasn't anything toxic in your comment.
