All the calls for Cavill to take over Aragorn in the new movies is pissing me off. I think Cavill is overrated, but there are roles he was suited to. But Aragorn is an extremely emotional man who doesn't hide his emotions. Cavill never shows any emotion in any of his roles. Sure he's popular and may look physically the part. But he's wrong for the role and if they cast him I will be furious.

New movies?

Any dreamcast ideas for the role, then?

My mind always goes blank when I try to think of actors for specific roles.

New movies? I'm sick of reboots and rehashes and let's turn this book into a fifth movie because god forbid we don't cash grab from the fans.

I hadn't heard about this, I think he'd be a amazingly awful choice. Like spectacularly bad.

They're making new movies? Oh no.

The Hunt for Gollum. Which is somehow going to be more than one movie. Not particularly enthused.

DA.

I've heard conflicting info that this is a new set of three movies but not a trilogy, but also some people saying it's a trilogy, so idk what's true. There are some things I'd love to see as stand alone films in this setting, but sadly I just don't see this attempt at doing some new movies doing it well.

Oh. I thought that came out as a video game a year or two ago? And was dead? I hope so.

Yeah it's not gonna go well no matter who they cast. I get that Viggo is a lot older now but since this is a nostalgia bait cashgrab movie you'd think they'd at least get him back, but instead it's gonna be someone new and they might do a good job! But I think getting someone new in general is gonna be a bigger death knell to this movie than the execs realise.

But hell it has to get filmed first and they're already like a year behind schedule, if not more.

It makes me grumbly because I'd love to get a battle for Dale movie as we never got to see that in the OG trilogy, but damn are they making the wrong choices to get there. Alas.

I'm irrationally angry that it's considered nostalgia bait considering I read LOTR before any millennial was even born. If you have to be nostalgic let's go back to the fucking books please.

That said, there's a reason Gollum's info was three paragraphs in the middle of the Council of Elrond - it's not interesting! Aragorn found tracks in the swamp, caught the creature, dragged it to Mirkwood. THE END.

The movies are 25 years old so they count as being a nostalgic form of media regardless of whether that makes you angry.

But yeah there really isn’t much of any kind of story there, like out of all the bits they didn’t have time to put into the movie trilogy choosing one of the least interesting parts is so odd. Which is why it feels so cashgrabby because Aragon was very popular back then, so it comes off as trying to capitalise on that but without the original actor I don’t see it working out.

He’d be terrible but also I think he knows that. He’s also very busy and it will be probably be a fair few years before he’s willing to take on a longterm role under someone else’s control. He’s got his Warhammer stuff and his young family; I can’t see him doing any big roles in the next 5-10 years.

I like Cavill in the stuff he's chosen since he had more creative choices (Witcher, Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare) but he's no Strider. Maybe Alex Pettyfer?
