I dunno, I want to like all these shows. I liked Discovery, although it annoyed me that they'd stop mid-action to talk about their feelings, and I liked the first season of Strange New Worlds. But modern live-action Trek makes a lot of choices that run contrary to what I like about Trek, which is people solving problems with science and diplomacy, the portrayal of improvable institutions in a post-scarcity, post-capitalist universe, the elimination of poverty and bigotry, and a future I'd like to be in. Picard had Victorian-era attitudes towards mental illness and an "abusers are just looking out for your own good" as a major arc, SNW had a woman literally turned into a sexy lamp, and Academy so far has a biracial character whose hair is cut without his consent, a heroine who did family separation like she's working for ICE or something, and characters who cheer when they blow up a spaceship full of people.

I do remember the first seasons of Trek always being bad, but this isn't the 90s anymore and if they want new people to get into the show, they need to up their game and not just scavenge GenXers nostalgia.
